Mini recap of the past few days...
--Friday--
-> PT: Josh's card game -- I guessed a black ace correctly -- 25 push-ups for the other side -- no mercy! (I know that probably doesn't make sense to anyone who wasn't there, but oh well!)
-> CPR and First Aid (2nd and 3rd time taking those courses, respectively)
-> Picked up my film from Walmart and dropped another one off.
-> Reggae Fest downtown -- practically everyone in AmeriCorps went down -- pretty cool stuff -- I came w\ one group of people in a car, hung out w\ a few other groups of people throughout the night, and left in another group's car (Silver 2's Andrew, Nicole, and Luke)
--Saturday--
-> Woke up early in case Meg needed an alternate for her ISP (Independent Service Project) -- turns out she didn't, but about a half-hour later, Luke knocked on my door to see if I wanted to be an alternate on the ISP that he was going on -- luckily, I was all dressed and set to go! The ISP was helping out at the American Heart Association's walk and I lucked out b/c I got to work at Subway's booth, where Nicole, Jonathan (both from Silver 2), and I got to hand out 1/4 subs to whomever came up to us! We also got to talk to a bunch of Citadel cadets who were also helping out, which was pretty cool.
Then...
I looked at my phone for the first time in about 4 hours and saw that I missed a call from home, which came in at 9:05am. The voicemail was something like this... "Hi Liz, it's Dad. BJ was in an accident this morning. The car flipped over, but he's okay -- just had a few minor bruises. Your car... is not. It's totalled." I called my dad back and found out some more details (it was on the Hutch, the road was a little wet, he flipped, but didn't flip over the guardrail, he was able to roll down the window and call my parents (thank God -- there's nothing worse to parents than receiving a call from the cops), went to Sound Shore just for procedure stuff, etc.). I'm really thankful that he's okay, but yeah, that was my shocker for the day!
-> After taking a nap and going to dinner, I showed Bevin, Kim, and Bosede my dance videos and then we watched Fast Times at Ridgemont High (I never saw it before -- pretty cool movie, though). Bevin and I then went to the BP bar (the bar on base) -- it was about midnight by that point. I'd never been to it and I thought it'd be a dark hole-in-the-wall, but it was big and bright -- there's a pool table inside and a volleyball tent outside. Meg talked for awhile w\ one of the BP guys, who has apparently been watching her for the past two weeks. She said he was nice, but it's all kinda freaky. Meg, Bevin, Zack, and I left the bar at about 3:30am and I was in bed by 4am.
--SUNDAY--
-> Slept in til about 11:30am.
-> Had lunch in the galley (cafeteria).
-> Took a nap.
-> Went to mass at the College of Charleston w\ about nine other people -- we made up about half the congregation! Long story short, the priest (Fr. Kendall) asked one of us to do a 1-min. spheel about AmeriCorps at the end of mass, and since I was the one who organized the trip to mass, my fellow CMs elected me to go up -- it's all cool though, and I did fine (although I forgot the "disaster relief" part, but my CMs helped me out! *snaps to them*). After mass, some guy came up to me and said that he graduated from Iona in 1957 -- small world, huh? We all then drove directly to the galley.
-> I did a whole lot of phone calling afterwards -- my brother (his neck hurts a bit, but he's doing okay), my parents, Grandma Jean, Mike, and Simone.
--TODAY--
-> PT: 2 mile run/walk, but a whole bunch of us got confused and just walked for about 45 mins.
-> Silver 4 - 8 worked at Goodwill -- we sorted out stuff in their warehouse -- pretty cool stuff, but it's amazing what people donate to Goodwill!
-> Team meeting -- we each got a silver "milestone" bead, so I gotta put mine on my boot tonight!
So that's basically my life for the past few days! Also, happy belated b-day to...
Ciaran (
queerdork)
and
Steph (
cinnamon927x)!
I didn't forget about ya on your b-days -- I just forgot to post it in LJ on those days! Anyhoo, I gotta go -- I wanna get some grub at the galley before it closes. Adios for now!
