Tuesday night about 11 inches or so of snow fell on my town. It's not the record, mind you. 5th largest snowfall in recorded history is all. But there is a ton of snow, and yesterday nothing was moving. Today, the transit trains and buses are doing much better, but I'm still recovering from my cold last week. When I ventured outside this morning, the cold immediately attacked my lungs, causing a coughing fit. So I called out, second day in a row.
I hate calling out :( It leaves my office short-handed and makes me feel like I'm letting down the team :( But it would take a walk, a bus ride, another walk, a train ride, and then another walk that would be longer than the first two combined, just to get me to the office. Just from stepping outside I am coughing, all that exertion in the cold would kill my lungs. So, here I sit, on my couch, feeling rather like a failure.
I'm ready, though. Doggone it. I have those little things you put over your shoes for traction, I've got spare socks and my headphones in my bag, I've learned that the gear I use for scooter riding in the cold is more than a match for simply walking or standing around...I don't have boots, though, so the deep snow is going to kill my ankles, but that's what the dry socks are for!
And just to mock me, the sun is shining. It looks beautiful out, with all that snow. But I'm still coughing from earlier. So, no. I'm staying inside, taking my cough meds, and trying to get better as fast as I can. Perhaps tomorrow.
