Right now im trying to procrastinate doing my homework for Modern Greek (we're learning to count to 200 right now), so I defintely think it's time for more pictures. And lucky for you, a lot less writing.
this is one of the royal guards. we see about 10 of them every day on our way to class. theyre just like the British royal guards in that you can mess with them as much as you want to but they dont move at all. they even have a special guard who rearranges their tassels and guns for them.
our apartment has two balconies- one in my room faces the main street and one in another room faces a nearby hill and has an awesome view.
this is the view of the stadium and the acropolis from our school building
the hill (well, one of them) we walk up and down every morning to get to class
one night last week we went to dinner with our teachers at a nearby taverna. this is poppy. and contrary to what we all thought she's eatig tiny fish - not green beans
my group at the taverna
Megan, Clare (both go to Notre Dame) and I. we knew our parents would appreciate us continuing the "first day of school" picture.
this is solely for my dad, who has begged me numerous times to bring him back baklava from greece
Notre Dame kids on our way to a Greek Dancing performance (clare, me, megan, andre)
i dont know exactly what this is, but we saw it on the way to greek dancing
amphitheater where we saw the dancing
later that night, the girls and I went to a local bar called Rojo where everything is- go figure- red
john(goes to Union college in NY) and andre came too
a little restaurant we had dinner at on Friday night
after dinner we pre-partied at aother group of girls' apartments
i love these faces
before we went off in search of any place in downtown athens where we could dance
we finally found a place
and had a good time
at this bar we met a group of guys from england, new zealand, and (i bet you cant guess which one) buenos aires
buenos aires boy refused to wear shoes, and said it was much more fun to wave them around while you were dancing
ahh i thought this was so cool. we went to another place that was literally turned into a roofless bar out of an ancient building's remains.
ND girls
i can already predict at least 3 pictures like this a week from now on. sorry.
saturday we found a beach in athens (albeit, the dirtiest beach in athens) and spent a few hours there. and now for the first time in my life i have a Mediterranean tan.
say hello to the hot old speedo-clad man with boobs
tomorrow night we are having a "get drunk and watch will and grace on andre's computer" night, and then heading to the docks at 5:45am to catch a 7-hour ferry to the island of Santorini. If youve never heard of it, it's one of the most beautiful and tourist-oriented Greek islands. it's also where they sent the cast of the Real World San Diego, and where one of the girls lived in the smash summer hit "The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants," which I'm sure all of you really cool Notre Dame kids saw. bottom line is this weekend's going to be awesome. and of course we're going to see if our hotel has satellite so we can watch the Michigan game.
alright ive got to go get lunch. they make me "special meals" here since i dont like any greek food. im approximately one step above riding the short bus to school everyday. it's actually really embarrassing, but the alternative is eating bread and watermelon everyday, which is what i did for the first week.
yall should write me cute little emails.
c ya.
