So as I drove home today it was raining. This has not been a rare occurrence since I've moved away from the TC, but as I was driving on the interstate, I noticed two cars with their flashers on.
When I passed the first one, I thought he had had some sort of mechanical trouble, as he was driving a lot slower than the other traffic. But when the second car turned on his flashers, I got the realization that they had done it because the rain was so heavy.
To be honest, I was not impressed by this. The rain was steady, and certainly the trucks were kicking up a nice spray, but they were small drops, a lot of them, sure, but it just wasn't that heavy.
Which made me think of the first time I had to pull over on the interstate because of rain. I distinctly remember driving from Kokomo, where we had had a senior retreat at Jess V's house. I had just started work at Lilly, and was flabbergasted at the force of the water hitting my wind shield. Being a desert girl, it just didn't make sense that that much water could fall down at one time.
Luckily, the road wasn't very busy, and I followed a few drivers over to the side of the road to wait it out. That sort of volume is not sustainable, and soon enough I was on my way.
I miss the desert. : (
