The lack of Jack and Rose was one of the things that bothered me most about this episode, because not only did they leave that plot thread flapping in the wind, but it reminded me of the worst of the insularity of Rose and Ten which I normally pretend doesn't exist because I like them both a lot. I mean, c'mon! She brought him back to life forever! He stalked cutely her when she was growing up! Can't they at least have ONE scene together?
I am growing more resigned to Donna's fate because even though I didn't like it, I think it was actually kind of well-written, and it also tied in thematically. After all of Davros' babble about how the Doctor turns his companions into explosion-happy people, we're forced to confront that Donna is a far better person now than before she met the Doctor, and that it is incredibly horrible for her to lose that. Also, the events of Turn Left showed that Donna is capable of growing more awesome all on her own, which means there's still hope. It's just very upsetting that we don't get any hints of that at the end, so it seems more like the Donna we know is dead and gone instead of waiting to be reborn, or whatever. And that sucks.
Also, RTD needs to stop saying "OH NOES SOMEONE WILL DIE!!1!!" and then NOT KILL ANYONE. THAT IS CHEATING.
Really, Jack just can't be that stupid. Utterly reckless, but not stupid, and not about to walk out on his team again--not after showing how very much he cares about both Ianto and Gwen. I just want some resolution to this.
This really bothered me too, until my sister pointed out that Gwen and Ianto didn't TELL Jack about the incoming Dalek, which of course changes the dynamic from "Bye, kids, I'm going to save the world with the Doctor! Good luck with that Dalek! Oh PS I'm taking the only Dalek-effective gun with me!" to "No, it's fine, Jack! You go save the world while we hold down the fort! We will of course be TOTALLY FINE, pay no attention to the Dalek behind the beaded curtain." It's incredibly brave and heroic but also slightly stupid, so totally right up Torchwood's alley. I also find it hard to believe that Torchwood has NO other weapons that work against Daleks (like, for example, a rocket launcher, or a BRICK), so Jack probably assumed they would be able to find SOMETHING that could cause big explosions and just didn't anticipate that they wouldn't have the time. So he wouldn't have been leaving them defenceless even if he didn't know about Tosh's deus ex machina.
In any case, I was incredibly amused that Tosh saved the day from beyond the grave by having them locked inside their own base. Again.
