Frankenmower Lives!

Waaaay back in 2005, my sister had problems with her mower. It wouldn't start. Somehow she could no longer get power to the motor or something. She brought it to my place because I have oodles of tools and a strong desire to use them, especially when I get to take stuff apart.

(My sister, by contrast, also has oodles of tools, but she uses hers to put stuff together, stuff like furniture which she designs herself. Electrical and mechanical things intrigue me; woodworking tools intrigue her. Blame or thank the Y chromosome.)

Well, a new battery later, the mower runs! I cut the front part of the lawn by just gutting the switchy stuff and clamping the battery wire to the motor. Seriously, half the parts involved in making the power go from the battery to the motor were designed to interrupt the process in some "safe" way. I removed half of those parts, simplifying the mower's life, as it were. Alas, though, the clamp holding the wires kept slipping from the jerry-rigged mount. I finally today connected the battery switch I bought -- two and a half years ago -- to finish the back yard.

I didn't procrastinate for no reason, but for a very good one. I already had a mower, a gasser I bought from a neighbor years ago. It was cheap (for me), but still ran. It no longer runs. I have abused it to death. I mean, really, why buy a hundred bucks worth of batteries when your lawn only needs $5 worth of gas per year to mow?
