That is truly frightening. I'm already chafing at my favorite aggregator sites presenting little more than link-bait and search-engine "optimizers" busily creating artificial links to their clients.

Thanks for a very chilling example of why we should be concerned.

Um.... who did you say you were again? :-)

The only thing that surprises me is that it was ever made public.

It became public knowledge because HB Gary is a bunch of idiots. One of the first things you learn in network security is to never taunt hackers. Block and fight then as you need to, but never make it any more personal for them. If you are just a random target, you just need to be secure enough to get them to move on. Make it personal for them, and they will focus on making your life hell, and even if they don't beat you, they eat up way too much of your life.

Smart network security people know you don't piss of the hacking community as a whole, because you probably have either members of that community on your staff, or one of their friends or lovers.

HB Gary made themselves a big, fat target, and then found out that Anonymous was more than their match. As someone in the field, I'm glad to see the weak thinned from the herd.

No kidding. Morons are they. Never underestimate the determination of the faceless legion.

Then again, we in the IC thought we had our network security shit down pretty well (no internet connection = no hacking, for many of us) until Bradley Manning came along. :/

Love what Bradley did. He's the face of freedom . . . and current poster child of blind, mindless retribution.

Apparently the same software is being used by at least the US Air Force, if not the Army as well. Now all we need is for someone to code an Open Source version for the hacktivist community.

I love that part of the emails where the HB Gary guys say to the mil-spec guys, "This is posted on open source. Are you fucking serious?"

It's amazing how a revelation can be shocking AND completely expected at the same time.

As an avid reader of comment sections (HuPo, certain newspapers and TV networks), I've been wondering just how there can be THIS MANY braindead right-wing dittohead zombies out there who spout nothing but right-wing talking points almost verbatim.

Granted, the most reasonable explanation and one that shouldn't be dismissed still remains that there is a fairly large number of complete morons in this country who have nothing better to do than to play online foot soldiers for the good cause of promoting corporate fascism, plutocracy and theocracy, but I've long been suspicious that quite a bit of conservative opinion online is created by lobbying firms working on behalf of vested interests.

Shocked, but not surprised at all.

Now we know the truth: the right wing zomboids are all cloned sock-puppets. It's our job to root out the puppet masters and blast them with some sunshine.

And it sure explains a lot of the boilerplate rhetoric, nutcase robo-spams and other things I constantly have to deal with in my work.

Huzzah for Anonymous. That almost makes up for some of their crueler pranks.
