In Which Cats Are Blamed

I mentioned that a few weeks ago I took a carpet shampooer filled with Nature's Miracle to the downstairs carpet, and how much better it smelled. And it did! It smelled CLEAN down there!

And the clean smell lasted all of maybe 24 hours.

The whole carpet needs to go but we can't afford to replace a whole carpet, so instead we have taken up a 3'x12' strip along the wall that is "cat pee row". And let me tell you, it was nasty, nasty carpet underneath. We got a 3'x12' strip of vinyl flooring at Lowes which I will glue down after the cement is scrubbed down with maybe bleach followed by more Nature's Miracle and possibly primed. Then I'm covering the vinyl (which is quite ugly and will also be quite cold since it's on cement slab in the basement) with some cheap but pretty oak parquet tiles I got on Craigslist. Somewhere in here I'm going to prime the wall and baseboard, too, and then we're goig to cross our fingers and hope the furry a$$holes we live with will just give up on that stretch of flooring.

In less gross and totally non-cat-related news, the nursery is all painted and the baseboards are down. Need to put a fresh coat of white semi-gloss on the closet doors and then we can hang them up again. And we need to hang the wallpaper border and THEN we can actually put furniture in there!
