Passage of the moment: omg i so love it.
For a moment it appeared to Sam that his master had grown and Gollum had shrunk: a tall stern shadow, a mighty lord who hid his brightness in grey cloud, and at his feet a little whining dog. Yet the two were in some way akin and not alien: they could reach one another's minds. Gollum raised himself and began pawing at Frodo, fawning at his knees. ~The Taming of Smeagol, TTT
The movie didn't emphasize the mastery that Frodo had for Gollum. PJ showed their likeness but what differentiated them is the fact that Frodo was able to resist and not become like Gollum. They did different things with the Ring. And how Frodo used the Ring to have Gollum swear by it and not on it is key...
Even more powerful is that passage about how Sam saw Frodo and Gollum at Mt. Doom. But that passage is for another night. :P
