TTT changes were pretty bizarre... i also didn't like certain changes in RotK in order to make it more marketable and appeal to the masses more... FotR did the least of "Hollywoodizing" i feel...and that is why it's the best adaptation of the three.
Changing Faramir pissed a lot of people off and i can understand why... the whole Frodo and Sam going to Osgiliath pissed me off especially when Frodo offered the Ring... wtf.. :/
But the movies as a whole are awesome and amazing... it's just when you compare, one can get a bit upset at the changes that were made to make them more marketable and appeal to the masses and not just book fans...
The HP movies -- i didn't like the majority of them...only really liked Prisoner of Azkaban... I haven't seen Order of the Phoenix though yet but i think i could be a less critical fan of it when i watch them since i'm a pretty casual viewer of the movies since Goblet of Fire kind of disappointed me... like you, i did read those books first so had quite high expectations. I enjoyed HP books 1-4 the most though and feel like those books will always be better than the movies from what i've seen in movies 1-4.
