"Happy Feet" review/thoughts...

So i went to see it on opening day... I usually don't run to movies opening night (other than RotK which i saw 3x in the first week it was out ;) but it's Frolijah and my sister has been seeing commercials of it so much and there's irrisistibly cute Mumble so yeah, i rushed out of work Froday night to see it (and preordered tix on Fandango as well. ;)

So everyone just thinks it's a dancing penguin movie but there *are* darker issues besides that as well. The part in which Mumble faces the "aliens" and that there is overfishing going on was really, i feel, a major point in the story.
For the first half, it was Mumble not fitting in because he can't sing like the other penguins but can defnitely has a hidden talent in dancing. And he's so cute when he dances! (And, wow, baby!Mumble is soooooooo adorable!!!! I was squee-ing so much for the cuteness that these penguins exude. :D My sister wants a Mumble doll now. :D hehe)

And so Mumble (voiced by our Elijah) went on a Quest to save his world from Sauron find out who/what is eating all the fish that is causing his group of penguins hunger because of the scarcity. I was really scared when Mumble kept on chasing after the ship and then being found and captured by "aliens" ...i got almost teary when i thought that there won't be a happy ending. :( I think my sis was frightened as well. :(

But no, there *is* a good happy ending and it's great that us "aliens" realize the overfishing that we do out in Antarctica.

Oh, and not to mention that the animation was stunning...just stunning. Everything looked so real!!! I think this is definitely a contender for Best Animated Picture. Definitely.

Robin Williams was great as voices for three penguins-- the "Mexican" adelie penguins who befriend Mumble are very funny. :D

However, I thought (as most kid movies do) based a lot of voices on general racial stereotypes that there are. There was one NY Times review that mentioned that and i agree that i find that somewhat bothersome. (call me overly PC or sensitive or anything, but i do get bothered by very "obvious" sounding stereotypically "black" or "Hispanic" voices...) but i guess that's how you make things funny... The NY Time review also mentions that it's prevalent in other animated features geared for kids too (like "Over the Hedge" and others...)

But overall, i really liked the movie. It's a really feel good movie with a serious message underlying it so ...yes I HIGHLY RECOMMEND IT!!!!

It certainly made my 6-year old cousin dance the whole night after watching it. :D And my sis *does* take tap dance already. lol

And Frolijah's voice? lol i was screaming "Frodo Lives" and "Elijah" before it started. SOrry, i'm obsessed crazy like that. ;) ;) ;) ;) ;)

happy feet, movies
