Grabbing his briefcase and whistling to himself as he packed up for the night, Sebastian Stark looked up as Madeleine came into his office. Looking back to his desk, he picked up another file folder and shoved it into the black case he held in his hand.

“Yeah?”

“What do I have to do to get you to look at me the way you look at Devlin?”

He stood straight up, turning on the spot to face her, his face contorted in confusion. What was she talking about?

“What?”

“You look at Jess Devlin like you’re in love with her, Stark. Don’t deny it. And don’t say you look at her like she’s a hot blonde. You watch her when she’s not looking and you look at her like she’s the most important thing in the world. I wish you would look at me like that.”

He blinked, smiling. It was his nervous response to pretty much everything.

“Madeleine, I don’t know what you’re talking about!”

“Yes, you do.”

He sighed, running his hands through his hair. What could he possibly say? Did she really feel that way about him?

“You know I’m not a big proponent of office romance, and I just don’t feel that way about you.”

“You do about her, then?”

He frowned, seriousness taking over his previously gentle tone of voice.

“What do you mean by that?”

She crossed her arms, a pouty look taking over her features. Her stringy blonde hair hung down flat to her shoulders. Not like her hair. Not like the full, curly, luscious locks that Jessica had. He felt his thoughts straying, if only momentarily.

“You might flirt with her because you think she’s ‘hot’ but you look at her like you love her and you don’t look like that at me because you don’t love me. So you must love her. Do you?”

He balked, not knowing what to say. What could he say to that?

“Yeah, I … guess I care about her more than I should.”

A sudden thought took over his mind. “Why do you want me? I thought you were still seeing Casey?”

A mischievous smirk took over her features and she stepped aside, showing him a full view of the woman they both had just been speaking about. Jessica Devlin had heard every word of their conversation and by the look on her face it appeared the whole thing had been a set up.

“I am. She’s not, though.”

He froze as Jess's high-heel clad feet clacked over to where he stood and his confusion deepened even more as the tall blonde wrapped her arms around his neck.

“You should have told me.” A flirtatious smirk appeared at the corners of her lips as she leaned towards him, pressing her lips against his. He had one last thought as he wrapped his arms around her waist.

Yeah, I guess I should’ve.

He hardly noticed as Madeleine left his office, shaking her head.
