Wherein I got an awesome TV list
Since I heard about the new British supernatural series Bedlam from entangled_now, AND got a download link from her journal I figured I'd give it a shot.
I. AM. HOOKED.
The show is something like Ghost Whisperer meets Supernatural meets British awesomeness. The premise of helping lost souls cross over isn't a new one, but the execution of it definitely can make or break a show *cough*JenniferLoveHewitt*cough*. I love the actual premise and the execution here is definitely something that can only get better with each episode. Plus the fact that they're based in Bedlam. :D
The pilot is awesome and creepy in the execution of ghost stories. A car pulling up to pick up hitchhiker and my thoughts flew straight to the SPN pilot with Sarah Shahi has the crazy hitchhiking ghost. But turns out the DRIVER is the ghost and the hitchhiker was Jed trying to help him cross over. Although how the ghost was driving a real car is kinda up in the air. The big story is Jed rushing to save his cousin Kate who apparently lives in a refurbished mental institution. The cliche of an old piece of jewelry trying to kill you was also carried out better than I had expected and the not so subtle hint of which ghost wants to kill her was pretty awesome too.
The guy playing Jed is a newbie although I swear I've seen him before. He has a very familiar (and hot) face, but his brood factor/detective skills are very very realistic and not heightened to the SPN levels of cheeze (but I love that too). The roommates are all pretty awesome and I'm already dreaming of a love connection between Ryan and Jed :D
I do have a couple reservations/questions but I'm hoping the upcoming episodes will shed more light on them. Like who is the one sending Jed the txt msgs? How long was he in the hospital for? Why is Uncle Warren so creepy/shady? What's so special about Kate (other than the body)? How did the redhead friend die in the first episode? I'm very intrigued about "Save Yourselves from Kate" line at the end
