A friend died last night. He was a young man, but he struggled with pancreatic cancer. I do not think anyone on this list knew him, but everyone here would have liked him. Those who have visited Orlando have seen his bald head and intense eyes staring at them from the billboards for Pirates Dinner Adventure.

He was a good and decent man at a time when this is a rare commodity. Was he bitter and angry about his situation? Sometimes yes. But did he let these emotions control and destroy him? No. His basic makeup could never allow him to sink into this state.

He had to continue working long past a time when he should have. I met him during Halloween Horror Nights, at Universal Studios. We were both responsible for different aspects of the same area. When I first met him, I did not think I would like him. But, I admit, I was sensing his bitterness at his situation.

Prior to the event, we had to drive an RV to the Universal campus and we used it as an opportunity to talk and learn each others style. In the 45 minutes it took to make the trip, I realized how lucky I was to have him as a workmate.

Throughout the course of HHN, I learned much from him. Through conversations, and just through observation. Sometimes, he would hide in the back of the house, away from where people could see, and he would suffer and regroup. But he never gave up. Not once.

I hope he is at peace now. Wherever he is, those around him now will be richer for his presence, as those of us who knew him here are richer for the experience of his friendship. The world is a lesser place today for his loss.
