Time for the aerials update! We only have one more week left for classes before break. I'm going to try to take two aerials classes again- the same ones- one with Kendra and one with Jackie. I may also take the Chinese pole class, depending how I like it after I try it Sunday.
I am really loving class with Jackie. She really just brings out the best in you even if you're struggling with something. Today we started with our usual warmup on trap- up to standing, then inverting to hollow body on the ropes. We're all working on doing it with straight legs on the way up instead of tucking into a ball, flipping the ball, then straightening. It makes me nervous to be on the ropes on trap for some reason- my grip never seems strong enough even though it is. I did invert with straight legs, though a little tag and a little wobble happened. Jackie said that once I get rid of the tag, everything else looks really good. Then while we were feeling fresh, we moved to varekai on the ropes. It's the same as the one on fabric. We learned a new sequence next, and I have some (not the best) pics. Here goes:
Upside down X
Then grab up and over and lower to Crucifix
Lift up and pull to cuddle (so comfy-FYI)
Flamenco the right hand and slide to sitting, then right into bird hang
Gazelle roll down to one knee one elbow, then into candlestick
Tah dah!
We then worked on prep for hip circles. Up and over->front balance->drop to catchers. Then something called 'pops'- you get ti your front balance, tuck into a ball grabbing behind your knees, then pushing back up to front balance. This proved to be a big mental challenge- you really need ti just go for it and use your momentum.
We moved to fabric for the last bit- climbing as usual. Then we worked on double crochet->double crucifix->double crochet slack drop. That's right! Our first big fabric drop! It was soooooooo fun! In fact, I even got it on the FIRST try!!!!!! We all did!
By that time we had to condition. On top of the usuals, Jackie had us try wrist hangs. I found them pretty easy and even ended up doing the next natural step (says Jackie) of dropping to hands. Yay!
Lin was there and I chatted with him a little while I jotted some notes after class. I'm finding that I like just keeping a regular notebook as opposed to our charts. I can make little notes about what I find fun or challenging and what I need to work on. I said my goodbyes to Lin, who was waiting for Tony and Erica, and headed home.
I'm feeling particularly exhausted this week. Wednesday felt like it should have been Friday. Work has been draining- the customers, the employees, everything. I knew that this promotion would provide me with more challenges. The thing that I didnt realize was how no matter how hard you try, no one is ever happy. Schedule, money, business, blah, blah, blah. You feel fortunate if even one person tells you they appreciate you for SOMETHING. I'm struggling to find a way to motivate the team and try to boost morale. I want it to be a fun and productive place to work. The hardest part is trying to figure out when you cut your losses and trim the excess fat. Something that I think, is one of my better assets is the want to give people another chance. I also think this is the hurdle I need to deal with to become a better manager. It'll come.
On the plus side, at 5pm tomorrow, I am officially off for the weekend. Man, do I feel like I need it.
