i don't know how democracy would be the opiate of the masses. i can't really think of a reason right now, it just doesn't really make sense. maybe because religion has the ability to control a person and democracy doesn't, really. i don't think i can explain it very well. the point being, i think that you are correct. everyone wants to fit in by being different. wtf? if you had any sort of brain in your head you'd know that doesn't make sense.
