[series]: Sket Dance
[character]: Shinba Michiru
[character history / background]: Shinba Michiru is a third year student at Kaimei High School, and is an executive of the student council, in charge of general affairs. Precisely what his duties are is never explicitly stated, though he is shown to take part in an undercover investigation of a mysterious and sinister club that has formed within the walls of the school. He manages to successfully infiltrate their ranks, exposing the leader and aiding Tsubaki (along with the rest of the Student Council) in capturing the culprits.

Beyond this particular capacity, Shinba seems to spend a lot of his time acting as a balance between Tsubaki's intensity and Agata's apparent lackadaisical attitude. He is not as easily riled as Tsubaki, but he is also likely to move into action before Agata stirs himself.

[character abilities]: Shinba is human, so all of his skills are sadly human in nature. He is an extraordinarily skilled chef.

[character personality]: If there is one thing that Shinba possesses in vast quantities, it is vanity. He is quite convinced that not only should his picture be taken, but that people want to see his pictures. Likely this vanity is not helped by the fact that he is honored with a fanclub fashioning themselves the Shinbals, who are only too eager to ask for his photograph. And he, being the generously vain soul he is, will happily set aside the task at hand (namely, a competition in which he is facing off against the Student Council's greatest rivals, the Sket-Dan) in order to oblige.

He is meticulous with his appearance, and even goes so far as to groom his eyebrows (again, when he should be competing against the Sket-Dan, though he does mention that he has to delay the start in order to win). It is plain, however, that Shinba cares about what he looks like and takes care to ensure that he is well-groomed.

Beyond his vanity, however, Shinba is a nice guy. He involvement with the Student Council suggests that he cares about his school and the students within it, which is emphasized by his participation in the operation to take down the Spiders Association. He is fairly light-hearted, and does occasionally tease the other members of the Student Council (most often Tsubaki, by pointing out that he's a spoil sport, or no fun). He also seems to be more aware of each of them than they are of one another; that is to say, not only does Shinba recognize the flaws and tendencies of the council members, he is also shown to be one of the few people that doesn't take Agata at face value. He knows that, while Agata appears to be laid back, letting Tsubaki run things, in actuality he is a manipulating, driving force. He is the one in the group that seems to be best aware of who Agata really is, and will freely approach him about his messing with Tsubaki's head (of course, the most he ever says about it is that perhaps Agata shouldn't do it so much).

[point in timeline you're picking your character from]: At the end of chapter 37 of the manga (which he actually didn't show up in), post Gachinko Vivage Battle.

Haaaah, I see that I'm the last to arrive. Hope I didn't keep everyone waiting too long! Though I'm sure you have all kept quite busy in the mean time. Never a moments rest, am I right, Tsubaki-chan? And if anyone could use a chance to relax for a while, it would be you. Though of course you'd be the last person to take that opportunity.

So, what have I missed? Has Mimorin attempted to buy off the City yet? I'm guessing it must not have worked if you're all still here!

Agata, I don't suppose you know what's going on?

[third person / log sample]:

Michiru loved student festivals. Not necessarily for the booths or the activities or anything like that--after all, he spent most of his time at the Student Council's booth, so he didn't get to partake much, as it were. It didn't bother him any, though; he liked working the booth. After all, staying in one place guaranteed that all of the girls that wanted to see him knew exactly where to find him, and there could be no better arrangement.

"Michiru-san!" A girl--a member of his fanclub, as he recalled--giggled as she came up to him, tiny digital camera in hand, hoards of her friends behind her. "Could I get your picture, please?"

"Of course." He smiled genially, stepping away from the front of the booth so that those in line to purchase items would not be hindered by his presence. There was the distinct sound of someone telling him to drown in a gutter and die coming from behind him, but Michiru ignored it as he put on a bright smile, leaning down close to the girl as she held out her camera and snapped their picture.

Once she'd left, gleeful and showing off her picture to her friends, Michiru re-entered the booth and inspected the covered containers still steaming on the back tables; food yet to be served, and the brief but thorough inspection revealed that, while not as good as it had been when he'd first made it, it was still acceptable. Michiru couldn't do with serving food he'd made that was not up to his standards.

There'd been no need for him to have cooked the dishes he had; the Student Council really didn't need to have a booth at this festival. Mimorin's connections meant that very little fundraising for their group had to be done. Of course, Tsubaki had insisted, as the student Council should always lead by example (so he said), and since Agata hadn't tried to manipulate the idea out of Tsubaki's head, Michiru assumed that the end result was something their president must have agreed with (even if his reasons might have been different; it was hard to tell, with him). There'd been a number of things they'd considered doing with their booth, but Michiru had pushed for cooking. And not just because it was something he happened to excel at.

No, Michiru had rallied for cooking because he'd known, even before the preparations had gone underway, what the result would be. Because Tsubaki would not have allowed Michiru to cook all the food on his own, not for an entire school festival. And one by one the others would have agreed.

And that was exactly how things had occurred, down to the letter, so that the time spent in the hours before the festival had them all in the kitchen together, them helping as much as they could as he directed each and every step in every dish. It had been long, tiring, and more than once hard words had been exchanged as some of them were prone to do, but it had been worth it. There were few people that Michiru enjoyed spending time with as much as them, and any opportunity to do so was to be taken immediately.

oh so ooc baby
