To say that Charlotte was a little bit shocked when she came out into the kitchen to make some coffee and turned on the facet to find the water not exactly the color that water you'd want to drink should be would be an understatement. She turned it off quickly and tried again, and then let out a little groan in thinking that, already, the day was ( Read more... )

"What's that about the pipes?" Dale asked as he entered the room struggling with his waistcoat.

"There's rum in them," Charlotte told him, turning out and holding out the small glass to prove it. "I hope that's not bad for them, but I can't imagine it being good..."

"All the pipes?" Dale asked looking, for once, concerned about this weird change. "No water at all? How odd."

"Oh, well," Charlotte frowned thoughtfully down into the rum in her cup, "I didn't check everything, just the kitchen sink, but they're all hooked up to the same water main, I thought, so I just figured..."

"Let me go check something," Dale said and wandered off to the bathroom only to come back a second later with a frown on his face.

"Also rum," he said as he looked mournfully at the coffeemaker. "This week seems to be the week of oddities."

Charlotte caught the mournful look, so Dale got one of utter sympathy in return. "Maybe," she said hopefully, "it isn't everywhere, just a few places, just like not everyone always turns into thing."

Dale took a deep breath and put on a smile. "I'm sure your right," he said pushing away the glumness. "After all I'm sure pirates need their coffee too."

"Oh, pirates especially," Charlotte added with a convinced bobbing of her head. "Eventually the run has to run out and then what? Lots and lots of black coffee, otherwise they'd be more than just awful and violent, but downright unbearable."

She was trying here, come on.

Dale chuckled and leaned over to give her a quick kiss. "Thank you, Charlotte. Your optimism is infectious," he said with amusement. "Have anything spectacular planned for the day?"

Feeling a little surprised that that actually worked, but very glad for it, Charlotte beamed a little and shrugged. "No, nothing in particular, really. I was probably going to spend half of it going over tomorrow's workshop, but that's all, really."

"Then I don't suppose you'd like me to cook you breakfast?" Dale offered. "With a glass of rum to start things off?."

"...I think I'll take orange juice over run this early in the morning," Charlotte decided with a small chuckle, "but breakfast would be great. You sure you don't have anything you should get to, either?"

"I've already completed my usual work items for the week," Dale said moving over to the refrigerator to see what it might contain. "I think I can stand to come in a few minutes late."

"Good," Charlotte said, grinning a little as she leaned on island in the kitchen while Dale took a peek in the fridge. "What were you thinking of making? And are you going to let me help at all?"

"Well how about an omelet?" Dale suggested cheefully. "Or would you prefer something simpler? And if you'd like to assist I certainly wouldn't have any complaints."

"Omelettes are good," Charlotte agreed with a nod of her head, and she pushed off from the counter to start to get out a mixing bowl and a pan and other things, until she stopped dead, bowl and whisk in her hands and a sudden horrible realization on her face.

"...oh, wait. I won't be able to clean the dishes afterwards. Not with rum."

And the whole idea of leaving them overnight or even longer until the problem was fixed was just out of the question!
