A MERRY LITTLE YULETIDE!
To begin, thank you for agreeing to write me fic about one of these fandoms! I am so happy and excited, and I'm sure I will be an absolute mess about whatever it is you end up writing.
As far as general things I am into: character studies, AUs (all the AUs for everyone!!!), slice-of-life fic, romcom tropes (pretending to date? awesome. pretending to be married? awesome. sharing a bed? awesome), roadtrips, non-linear narratives, people who cannot stay away from each other no matter how unhealthy and destructive it might be, sharp snappy dialogue, and stories that read like poetry. I like makeouts, and I like porn, but I'm not super into PWP -- I'm more interested in how the way people fuck reveals them and what it says about someone or the relationship between two people. I have gotten bored reading smut before -- more than once!
Things I dislike: non-con or dub-con, character-bashing and kid fic. I like angst, but I want it to feel earned and honest instead of just for the sake of itself. No character death please.
NERVE (2016) [Vee, Ian | Sam]
I loved this movie so much. It was pure, unadulterated fun, and I was so tense the entire film -- partly because of the stakes, but partly because I was worried they'd ignore the gold that was Vee/Ian in favor of the Best-Friend-Who-Has-A-Crush-On-Her thing. And once it registered that you don't spend so much time with Vee/Ian to go in another direction, I was worried one of them was going to die. Thankfully the movie decided to give me everything I wanted, and I left the theater thrilled and excited and wanting all the fic.
Ideas: Fic about Vee and Ian (I know his Name is Sam, but like? If you choose to ignore it I won't complain!) dealing with the trauma of Nerve together. Calling each other in the middle of the night because they can't sleep, just to make sure they're still alive and breathing. Working through how to simply be without jumping at the sound of a door slammed too loudly or a car backfiring. Fear of technology. Fic about the two of them getting a place together and learning how to co-exist in the same space. I found the chemistry between them natural and endearing, so feel free to go all out on the romcom tropes: casual touching and intimacy! dancing in the kitchen even though no music is playing! take them on a roadtrip! Fic about their relationship from an outsider POV: her mom, Sydney, or even Tommy (him working through a bit of Nice Guy Jealousy could be super amusing to me?). I'm game for anything angsty (although I'd prefer the angst not be derived from their relationship with each other or breaking them up) or fluffy or sappy.
If you're not into it romantically, you could focus on the shared experience binding them together, or you could look at where either of them go post-Nerve. Vee's college career, dealing with what happened to her brother, learning to be honest with her mom and herself about what she wants from life. Ian dealing with the trauma he faced and what freedom is like now that he has it when he thought the price he had to pay might just be death.
FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS [Vince Howard, Jess Merriweather]
I love all the FNL kids, but I have a soft spot in my heart for the lions. Vince and Jess are my favorites, and I would adore fic about them as individuals or together. If you wanted to explore their shared history, the bond they had and how it fell apart before the show, I would love it. I have always been interested in their backstory, but the show never delved into it, so feel free to do so! If you want to give me a glimpse into their future: maybe they're the Eric and Tami of Dillon -- or another town -- now. Jess is Eric! Vince is Tami. I would love fic about Vince and his mother throughout the years, dealing with her drug addiction and his dad's absence. I would love fic about Jess and her family, raising her brothers and helping her dad, dealing with the loss of her mother and how that affected and shaped who she became. Maybe snapshots of how her love for football developed!
WHILE YOU WERE SLEEPING (1995) [Lucy Moderatz, Jack Callaghan]
This is one of my favorite romantic comedies ever. I have fond memories of watching it with my mother on VHS while I was growing up, and I try to rewatch it every year during the holidays. It's funny and warm and the found family aspect of it hits my heart just right. I love Lucy and Jack, and I would love fic about either of them in any capacity, and especially fic about the two of them together.
Ideas: Explore Lucy's relationship with her father before he passed away. He's such a core part of who she is, and I'd be really interested in seeing their dynamic in action. I'd love fic about how Lucy ended up working for the CTA and maybe all the people she encounters there. I'd be interested in fic about Jack and how his love for building furniture developed, the relationship he has with his father and his brother. The love and the guilt and the resentment there for multiple reasons.
For the two of them together!: Show me all the places they travel and all the stamps she gets in her passport! Show me their domestic bliss! Folding laundry and throwing balled-up socks at each other! Having to deal with a broken dishwasher or clogged sink! I'd love to see their future holidays and the traditions they make together. And, of course, feel free to explore the family dynamics between the two of them and all of the Callaghan's. I love Lucy finding a home in Jack and a family in the Callaghan's, and anything that digs into that would be delightful and heartwarming.
JESSICA JONES (TV) [Jessica Jones, Luke Cage]
I really love this show, and I really love the exploration it did of Jessica and her trauma without blaming her for it or easily forgiving her for her own actions after. However, I do think the way they constructed her relationship with Luke was complicated and messy and her actions were fucked up. So, if you want to deal with the messy realities of what happened between them in show, I'm all for it! She did wrong by him, and I'd like to see them grapple with that and work through it -- either on their own or together. I've started Luke Cage (and love! it! Although referring to Jessica as a "rebound chick" hurt my shipping soul), and will probably have completed it by the time yuletide rolls around, so if you want to explore that to some extent with him, go for it! Or if you want to bring them together after the events of it, go for it! But obviously it's not a requirement by any means.
For these two I'd also love fic set in some vague future that allows them a slice of happiness and relative peace. So if you're not interested in working through their issues explicitly, you can definitely go that route and explore a time when most of that leg work has been done. I would love to read about them living their version of happily-ever-after. I already think they deserve it. Or! More fic of them working a case together. The noir aspects and aesthetic of the show also really appeal to me, so if you give me a procedural-y case of the week that's amazing!
As far as other characters go, I love Trish and I love Malcolm and I love both their relationships with Jessica, but I didn't include them in my request because I figured other people would focus on Jessica/Trish (in particular), and I wanted something that focused on Jessica and/or Luke and/or their relationship with each other, but feel free to include either Trish or Malcolm. And if you wanted to have Luke and Trish get to know each other better, or even do some sort of ot3 situation? I'd be super into it!
AMERICAN HORROR STORY: COVEN [Madison Montgomery]
Surprise, Bitch! I love Madison Montgomery, and I want to know more about her always. She was really fun and funny, but I think the hints of depth to her were wonderful, and I'd like to see that explored more fully instead of reducing her to a Bad Person. There's a sadness to her that I'd love to see expanded on and delved into. I'd be interested in reading about her time in Hollywood and what that was like for her, maybe both empowering and lonely? I'd be interested in rewriting or fixing what happened to her on the show. Show me what she looks like as Supreme! Give her agency that was taken away from her in her death, and make her story about her revenge instead of focusing on trauma that was disgustingly called back to in her death. I'd also love an AU where she gone girls Kyle/everyone.
