about your post in the vegetarian community

hi, I don't have a livejournal, but I was reading a friend's friends page, and saw your post on the vegetarian community about people who are sympathetic w/ animals, and don't go veggie, and I wanted to make a quick comment.
I guess I could be labeled as one of those people who care about animals but still don't go veggie. I love animals, my house is like a zoo, and anyone who has every been a dog or cat owner will tell you that animals definitely have personalities, and I have heard a lot about the horrors of factory farming, etc. So, why not go veggie? Basically, it's just not my cause. (Hear this out before you dismiss me). Animal rights is a good cause. And I definitely think it deserves attention. But I believe that people can't go around applying themselves to every single good cause out there, and just do a little here, a little there. I think it's better to pick a single cause and devote everything you've got to it. For some people, that's animal rights, and they go vegetarian/vegan, don't buy anything tested on or made from animals, become politically active in things like peta, etc. For me, animal rights isn't my cause. It's a good cause, but to me, there are others that are more important, and I'd rather save my energies and REALLY make a difference somewhere else. (sort of a "pick your battles" mentality, I guess) It's not for me to judge what others believe in, and not for others to judge what I deem most important. So, I don't go veggie, but I support my friends who do. And that's it.
I hope that this comment wasn't unwelcome or confusing or whatever, and I hope maybe it made you feel a little better about those who don't choose vegetarianism. I know you were talking about people who don't make the choice because meat "tastes good" but this is just another aspect of it, I guess. And, I, for one, think veggie-burgers taste better than beef ones anyway... although my personal favorite is the turkey burger :-)
