All these years I've been wandering around,
Wondering how come nobody told me
All that I was looking for was somebody
Who looked like you. - “I’ve Got a Feeling” the Beatles

Nymphadora Tonks had been banished from the kitchen after knocking over Molly Weasley’s freshly baked cake. It had been a total accident. Could have happened to anyone really. Well, anyone stuck in a house with Fred and George Weasley and Sirius Black that is. Scratch that, it could have only happened to Tonks. She had been just so jumpy about helping Molly in the kitchen with dinner that her normal klutziness had doubled with out the three pranksters help. Though she doubted the cake would have decorated the walls if it weren’t for the huge dragon shaped firecracker that had strolled casually into the room behind her.
Sighing she made her way up to the room that she was using while at number twelve Grimmauld Place. She quickly checked the bed to make sure that the twins nor her cousin Sirius had placed dungbombs for one of Fred and George’s creations in it for her to find. She had quickly learned after her first night that those three could not be trusted. Once she was sure that no ‘wonderful’ surprises awaited her she slipped in and pulled the covers overtop of her spiky purple hair. Maybe she should just wait here and let Remus, Mund, Mad-Eye, Elphias, Diggle, Emmeline, Podmore, Hestia and Kingsley go rescue Harry with out her, after all, it wasn’t like the boy needed ten people to rescue him, did he? That would be just silly. Yes, she’d just lay here in bed and keep out of trouble. Surely the others wouldn’t mind. It’d more than likely be easier with out her getting in the way and goofing things up.
She hadn’t been hiding long when she heard a knock on the bedroom door. It was a bit of a shock. Who in the house actually had the manners to knock on a door? Any of the Weasley children or Hermoine would have barged right in as she had told them they could, Arthur and Molly had been parents so long that closed doors meant nothing but trouble to them so they also barged on inside. Mundy and Mad-Eye didn’t stay at number twelve except when they absolutely had to. Sirius would just claim that while technically she was his second cousin and part of the Black family it was his house and he could do whatever he wanted in it. Sliding the covers off of her face she opened her mouth to ask who it was.
“It’s me. Remus.”
Remus? What was Remus doing knocking on her bedroom door like the big bad wolf in a children’s story? She giggled at the mental image of Remus as the big bad wolf before telling him to come on in. If there was one werewolf in the entire world that was the direct polar opposite of the big bad wolf it was Remus Lupin. The older man was one of the kindest and mild mannered wizards she had ever met.
And for some strange reason he was sitting on the edge of her bed much like her father used to. Yet, she’d never thought of her father as a yummy piece of male before thankfully, because that was exactly the kind of thought that was running through her mind as he stared thoughtfully at her with his bright amber eyes.
Merlin! Why was he just sitting there?
“I, um, I heard what happened with the kitchen.”
Great. She moaned pitifully and pulled the covers back over her head.
“Kreacher cleaned it up already. Molly’s working on another one as we speak actually.”
“I guess you don’t want me to come when you go get Harry huh?” She asked her voice muffled by the sheets. Remus for his part looked surprised at her and attempted to pull them back down so that he could see her face.
“What?”
She shrugged and let the covers be pulled away. “Well, it’s not like you need me going.”
“And why wouldn’t we need you?”
“Get real for a minute Remus, okay? You don’t need ten people to got get Harry now do you?”
“Tonks-“
“No, I mean it’s okay, I don’t even know how I passed Auror training I’m such a klutz.”
“Nymphadora-“
She frowned. “Don’t call me that. Only my mother and father call me that, and that’s only if I’m acting like a child.”
“Well aren’t you?”
“What?”
“You. Up here. Pouting? Seems just like something a child would do to me.”
“I’m not pouting.”
“Oh? Then what would you call this?”
“Hiding.”
“Hiding, huh? From who?”
“Molly. Everybody.” She took a deep breath and blew it back out sharply. “I shouldn’t be here and everyone down there agrees.”
“Wrong. You are needed here and they all know it.” Her disbelief was clearly shown on her face. “You are very much needed here Tonks. Whether you would believe it or not you are a very skilled young woman that could be of great use to us in the future. You may not think so now but it’s true.” Remus smiled a bit and flicked her lightly on the nose. “That and you’re kind of clue as well.”
“What?” Where had that last bit come from? Her? Cute? No way, Remus needed to have his eyes examined.
He grinned wolfishly. “You heard me. Now come on down and have some dinner before it’s all gone.” With that he stood and walked out of the door, leaving it wide open behind him. Still a bit shell shocked from the turn in the conversation Tonks climbed out of bed and made her way down to the dinning room, ignoring Mrs. Black’s shrieks about blood traitors and the like. Sitting down next to Bill Weasley across from Remus and Sirius she noticed the very Moony grin still on Remus’ face and the almost too knowing smile on Sirius’. She had a feeling that maybe this wasn’t going to be so bad after all.
