Ok, I think that that is enough spoiler space, if you're still reading this and don't want to be spoiled than, well, you've got problems.
Wow. I went at midnight on friday and picked up my copy, read until about five in the morning, slept, woke up around 10:30ish, read until I had to go to work at three, read through my hour break at six, got home at ten and was finished by about eleven last night. It was great. I love the new characters, I love the building on to the old characters. I was stupid and looked ahead and knew that Sirius died so I wasn't that surprised when he was killed. I had a feeling when the group of Death Eaters broke out of Azkaban that Bellatrix would be the one to kill him.
I can't say that I was shocked to learn about the Black family tree. I had a feeling that they were at least connected to Death Eaters in some way because of how readily they accepted the fact that Sirius betrayed the Potters. Takes on a whole new meaning to the term "black sheep" don't you think? His family was just so evil. Bellatrix is turning out to be an interesting villian for sure. She reminds me of the insane vampire queen in the Vampire Lestat.
Cousin Narcissa...oh boy. Ok so I don't know how many people reading this have read A Bit of the Dark Sinister or The Life of Brian by echo but there are *great* scenes in both fics with Sirius flirting with Narcissa in them (in Dark Sinister Narcissa attacks Sirius as soon as she meets him by kissing him so long that Draco almost has to pry them apart as a way of saying "thank you" for killing her husband) and now, just thinking about them makes me what to shudder. I can't wait to hear echo's reaction to OotP, it's gonna be interesting knowing her.
What else? Oh, yeah my new favorite character, Tonks. Now don't get me wrong, Draco, Remus, Sirius and Fred and George are still fab and are amazing but it's time for someone new to join their ranks. I love the idea of a realistic female character that isn't a sister or mother figure. Tonks is just a klutsy, funny, punk-rock, Auror who can change her apperance at will, which you've gotta admit is hella cool. I can so see her jamming out to the Clash or Sex Pistols. She's me. If I had to pick any one female character to be it'd be Tonks. Nymphadora what a kick ass name. She does seem kinda nymph-ish.
Fred and George kicked ass. They rock. I loved they're and Ginny's war chant after Harry's trial. "He got off, he got off" Their reaction to Umbridge was typical Weasley twin. Urgh, how dare she kick them (and Harry) off of the Quidditch team. Their shop is going to be very interesting, I can't wait until we get to take a look at in the next book. And the dragon skin suits. Hehehe. Very rock'n'roll. They prolly got the idea from Bill and his dragon hide boots. But it was the way that they left Hogwarts that really made an impact. Calling for their brooms and flying out of there. And the section of the swamp that Flitwick left in the hall was great.
McGonagall cracked me up! She was so snarky to Umbridge. I'm loving this side of McGonagall. You've gotta imagine just how much she'd kept back through the years of having Sirius and James and Fred and George in Gryffindor and then just being able to let it all out like that on that mega bitch.
Snape and Ginny had layers added on to their characters. I still have faith that Draco will become a somewhat useful memeber of the new generation of the Order, kinda Spike-ish really. Good to an extent but still a total badass.
Right now I'm gonna start work on a Sirius POV fic while he was in number 12 Grimmauld Place as well as a Remus POV during The Only One He Ever Feared and The Second War Begins. There was far too much Remus/Sirius-ishness in parts of OotP to ignore.
On a totally different note. I finally say Velvet Goldmine. Wow. It's the David Bowie story. lol. Well, that is if Bowie had faked his own death. Ewan McGregor is so hot. JRM? I never truly understood what it was about JRM that was so great until I saw this movie and I've just gotta say that I totally get it now. He'd a god. Le sigh. Guys in eyeliner. I'm in heaven.
