Mihama American Village is known for many things: Sunset Beach, it's gaggle of stores pushing overpriced American clothes, Mihama 7-Plex, the random, crocodile serving restaurants. But perhaps it is best known for the big ass ferris wheel that symbolically represents America, slowly spinning in a circle, watching over everything, then tumbling back down to Earth in spectacular fashion...or something like that. It had always been my dream to one day ride on this shining beacon in an otherwise desolate, base consumed area of the island, but sadly someone had to go kill that dream deader than all the childhood goldfish I flushed down the toilet. It's broken, and apparently the company who runs (er...ran...) the ferris wheel couldn't afford to pay for the costly repairs required to fix it. Who knew a giant wheel would be so expensive to maintain? Oh well. Things may be gloomy now, but my hope is that some wealthy Okinawan with too much money on his/her hands and plenty of alcohol in their system will swoop in and save the ferris wheel!
