Are there military men who exclusively seek out Japanese women? If so, what would you say are the reasons?
The women in your attached photo look American (aside from the obvious facial differences). Are amejos more "American" than their more "Japanese" sisters? The stereotypical Japanese woman has been presented as being meek, passive and submissive. Or do these stereotypes bear little resemblance to reality? Anyway, would you say that amejos are more assertive than other Japanese women?
i definitely think there are military men who exclusively date japanese women, but i think they are dating amejos and not your average japanese woman.
amejos dont only date americans, they "act" more american. as you mentioned, japanese women are stereotyped as being meek, passive and submissive. i don't know every woman in japan, obviously, but the ones i do know are definitely like that. amejos, on the other hand, like to party, aren't conservative (okinawan people do not wear bikinis to the beach, and its rare if they'll wear anything that might reveal a bra strap)...basically they'd fit right in on an american college campus.
so to answer your question...yes, i do think amejos are more assertive than other japanese women. at least other okinawan women.
I've been back and forth to this place for six years now. You're being rather polite in the description of Amejos. It's really unfortunate because it's not just a fascination of American culture, it's more of them being ashamed of who they are. So these people (guys can be Amejos, too) adopt a fake persona and hide who they are just to somehow fit into their image of American culture. More often than not, their perception of what America is, particularly Black men, is misconstrued. They go for the music video archetype and model their behavior after women of color they see in American media.
I actually took that photo. Getting hired for club gigs for photos is often a terrible thing in Okinawa. The guy in the grey is a somewhat well-known reggae DJ out here because we all know that Amejos somehow think they're half-Jamaican as well. The other guy, well, he was the gatekeeper of Amejo sluts. He used his Japanese skills for evil, but he's long gone these days.
Don't go to Saicolo. It's a terrible place. If you want to go to a club, go to Garden, Underground Gold, Enma, Clutch, but NOT Saicolo, POwer Hitterz, Thyme, Ando, etc. These places are hot garbage.
Despite being in the military (most of my friends are civilians and don't even know that I'm even in the military), I do my best to avoid Americans, Amejos, and any place that these beings frequent. I'm actually embarrassed to be a Y plate most of the time.

this is such a crazy subculture to me-and I'm absolutely fascinated. Ron let's talk more. I'm interviewing a lot of folks involved in the nightlife and a friend is supposed to take me on a "tour" of the clubs to get a sense for what is happening culturally. I'd love to pick your brain on this topic in particular. Fameone--your comment is very interesting. I would so love to talk to you as well. I'm working on a cultural research project on fragmented "american" spaces in Okinawa that you might be very interested in. Ron can put you in touch with me and I can tell you more. And I don't drive a y plate :)
