Crime pays. Apparently so does being under the age of 20. I was teaching my kids last Saturday, talking about New Year's and other assorted shit (Santa), when we got on the topic of otoshidama. Otoshidama is money that kids get at the beginning of the year from various people in their family. It's that one time of the year when you're actually glad to have that rich, eccentric, slightly creepy uncle in the family. How much did my kids get? 20,000 yen ($260) a piece. These kids are 8 and 10, so to peeps that age its more like 70 billion dollars. What would a kid spend that kind of money on, anyway? A years worth of chocolate Pocky?
