I originally started this blog with two goals in mind: 1) to provide job job hunting information to people living abroad and considering a movie to Okinawa and 2) to document my life living in a foreign country. Goal #1 kind of fell to the wayside after I got my first job two years ago, but now that I'm back in the partial unemployment mix again I figured it'd be a good idea to kind of go back to my blogging roots so to speak.
Here's a list of all the English schools (with contact info where available and other things I may know about the place) I've come across during my time here.
MAX21 English SchoolLocation: Ginowan City (near the Ginowan Convention Center)
Tel: 098-893-9410
Email: max21@m1.cosmos.ne.jp
AEON There is one AEON branch in Naha on Kokusai Dori. However, because it is one of the big 4 I don't believe you can just waltz in there and hand in a resume like you can at the smaller English schools. You'd have to apply online like everybody else. According to their website you work 38 hours, 25 of which is actual teaching time, get 5 sick days, 3 weeks of vacation time, and a salary of 270,000 yen a month. It almost sounds better than JET...
NOVA Same deal as AEON, except there are a handful of locations in Okinawa compared to AEONs one location. The two I know of off the top of my head are in Nishihara and Naha (Shintoshin).
MIMI's English SchoolLocation: Naha City (off of Kokusai Dori) and Ginowan City (Futenma)
Tel: 098-864-0530
E-Mail: mimichanclub@gmail.com
I've written about MIMI's before, but it's a small English school that doesn't use text books and is a lot more conversation based because of it. They have classes that run from the morning until night time and you actually get paid after you finish up your class. On the downside, because there's no real deal employment system in place, you kind of only get used if you're needed.
IAC Academy of LanguageLocation: Nishihara (near Ryukyu University), Tomigusuku (near Kaigungo Park), Fukuoka (downtown-ish...maybe)
Tel: 098-852-2669
E-mail: neil@go2iac.com
IAC is one of the larger, non big 4 eikaiwa's in Okinawa. The past couple of years they've hired teachers from outside of Okinawa. Not sure why that is, but if you happen to be in Japan and looking to relocate then it might be a possibility come next school year. In addition to teaching at the eikaiwa, you'd probably be required to teach outside classes at a pre-school or business college.
Skola English SchoolLocation: Ginowan (Futenma)
Tel: 098-893-8486
Skola is a tiny school and only has one full time native English speaker. But you never know...that person might quit or something one day...
English GardenLocation: Naha (Shintoshin, near Naha Kokusai High School)
Tel: 090-6420-5565
E-mail: info@garden-h.com
English Garden is a lot like IAC. The two schools are of similar size and both have teachers teaching outside classes in addition to eikaiwa classes. English Garden even has ex-IAC staff on their roster of teachers.
English WorldLocation: Naha (Miebashi, off of Kokusai Dori)
Tel: 090-8290-4021
E-Mail: info@ewokinawa.com
The dude who runs this place is super nice. There are classes in the morning as well as the afternoon.
Y.M.L. English SchoolLocation: Chatan (Hamby Town, in the same building as HIS)
Tel: 098-936-0144
This is another small school with some children's classes and private classes for adults. The place is littered with Christian imagery, not something you see super often in a Japanese business.
Global VillageLocation Ginowan (Futenma)
Tel: 098-896-1577
E-mail: info@gvokinawa.com
Global Village not only offers English classes, but also classes in other languages. If you happen to be fluent in something like Chinese, Japanese, Spanish, or French your teaching options would open up a bit. They also offer things like cooking classes so if you happen to have some kind of skill that could be taught then...there ya go!
Family English SchoolLocation: Naha
Tel: 098-832-4199
E-mail: administrator@fes-okinawa.com
Chit Chat English SchoolLocation: Naha
Tel: 098) 835-4510
E-mail: chitchatschool@gmail.com
Last time I checked, the dude here wasn't hiring anyone. But there may come a time when he's able to expand and add more teachers to the payroll.
Red Roof English SchoolLocation: Ginowan (Makishi)
Tel: 098-890-1228
E-mail: job.info@redroof.jp
YMAK ESL InstituteLocation: Ginowan
Tel: 090-988-1185
This place offers TOEIC and TOEFL classes so experience in those areas could be a plus.
English Teachers in OkinawaLocation: Chatan
Tel: 090-1340-1388
