Living in southern Okinawa, sometimes I forget there's more to this island than pachinko parlors, izakayas, an abundance of satokibi fields, and tenth rate shopping centers. You know...things like an abundance of dams and hidden waterfalls only accessible via mega-dangerous hillside descents through the jungle and stuff up north.
This here is that dangerous hillside descent through the jungle, but I guess it's really just half the fun of finding the waterfall. There's a series of ropes to help you make it down, but they can only get you so far. Sometimes you just have to hold onto something slimy, get dirty, and climb down the old fashioned way. Or slide down as is sometimes the case.
Probably should have chosen some more appropriate attire for this.
All that effort was totally worth it when we mad it to the bottom. Tada! Secret waterfall, we mastered your mysterious ways and lived to tell about it. Barely.
Thankfully the trip back to the top was a lot easier to manage than the one coming down.
Gather round kiddies cuz now it's random story time of the day! You see that shoe on the right over there? Notice how it's not as dirty as its counterpart on the left? That's because it fell in the lake/river the waterfall emptied out into and and got swept away by the current. It almost fell over a different waterfall, but got caught on some rocks. I managed to save it however and it came out a lot cleaner. Just couldn't imagine a) losing my favorite pair of shoes to a waterfall and b) having to go back up the path barefoot. I'm not much for squishiness between my toes.
