My, I had expected everyone to turn out to either speak English or Japanese.

English would have been most expected, perhaps, although I have not failed to notice the high quantity of Japanese speakers. But I, too, am surprised how many of us can speak German.

Perhaps this America has some strange fascination with the Japanese.

Is there anything you can speak besides German and English? And...was that Latin?

I am well versed in Latin, yes; it comes with my profession.

As for any other languages, none well enough to be worth attempting. If I am not fluent, there is no reason to attempt to converse.

Of course! I would never taint my perfection by embarrassing myself in attempt to use a language I am not fluent in. I can read Latin, but speaking it is another matter.

I wonder, what profession do you have which would require you to know Latin? All which come to mind from my personal experience are doctors and priests.

Ah! Of course! German, Latin, and...

A whip! How silly of me. It has been quite some time since I have seen a vampire hunter! I trust you have not heard of my Mistresses. I would rather not bloody another apron.

Precisely. I would not tolerate such foolishness from another, so I will not display such foolishness myself.

And no. I am afraid your assumption is mistaken. The whip is for instructive purposes. I have no interest in vampires, only in criminals.

Oh. It's good to see flogging is still being put to use in certain parts of the world.

Not nearly as frequently as it ought to be, but I still find it useful and important.
