Stephen wiped the blood and dirt from Jack’s face. They had brought him down from the battle. The Surprise had taken a massive broadside.
The crew had found Jack on deck. ..unmoving.
Stephen could find no wound that demanded attention; no outward sign of injury.
Yet, Jack was unresponsive.
“Please joy, come back to me,” Stephen uttered aloud.
Quietly he murmured, “For I do not know how I could go on without you.”
Jack’s eyes flew open; he looked fondly at Stephen.
“If you are done preddying me up, I would like to get back to my duties.”
