It's so summery all of a sudden here in Los Angeles. It's making me feel all excited and energetic. During my lunch break today I put on The Hold Steady cd extra loud and drove around with the windows down. It was marvelous. Tonight the Midnight Rydazz meet a couple blocks from my apartment for their Monthly ride. It's basically critical mass without the politics. (thank god) I think these 19 year old bike enthusiasts shouting 'cars are coffins!' actually think that bicycle pride is some sort of new concept. Having spent the majority of my weekends in the East Bay growing up the concept is about as exciting as a lava lamp after you've owned it for 15 years. Anyways, I think I'll join them tonight with some friends. It's not too different then my failed event I tried to put on in Roseville 4 or so years ago. I tried to organize a drunken bike ride through the streets of Roseville where we'd stop randomly and drink beers. I fliered all over the fucking city and like 3 people showed up. I was inspired to try this upon reading an old Scam zine where he organized a huge group of San Franciscans to do a late night bike ride where they stop at all those weird self cleaning bathrooms and pound beers and continue. This event was most likely inspired by that Revenge of the Nerds movie where they had to ride tricycles around a track and pound a beer every lap.
