The mudball

I rode a swamp monster yesterday. Or at least, that's what she smelled like.

The horses had been cooped up inside, with only the arena to move around in, during all the nasty weather we've been having. (Snow, followed but a LOT rain and wind.)

So when we turned them out yesterday, without their blankets because it was so warm, they were very happy ponies.

Diamond especially needs a lot of time outside. She celebrated her freedom by finding the nastiest patch of mud and coating herself in it.

I have never seen such a muddy horse -- 45 minutes after we started work on her, she was finally rideable, although by no means clean.

We had a nice ride. It was her first ride in at least two months. She was very sensible about it. She's a green horse, but she's not crazy. She's so different from Friday, it's hard for me to ride her, but we'll get there. She requires a lot more guidance and support than Friday. Diamond gets fussy if I don't keep my legs on her all the time, and the way she shaped, it's a bit of a challenge.

And, just for fun, this is the muddy creature. (Best I could get from my camera phone.) Just multiply this mud over the entire surface of 16.2 hand horse.
