I have a dilemma.
Friday night I plan to get off work about 11:30 p.m. and head straight to a bookstore to buy my new copy of “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.” This plan so far sounds great. I even have the next day off of work, so I could spend the entire day reading happily away. Possibly on my lawn with a cool drink and my cuddly dog.
But.
On that same Saturday, when I should be reading the book I’ve been waiting for so long, a large horse show is going on.
You see the problem here?
Horses or Harry?
Which to choose? Oh, the agony. To throw in another of my strongest instincts, the horse show starts very early, and it’s a good drive from here. So I would have to haul my ass out of bed. And, if you know me, you know I’m not good at that. My job kinda prevents being a morning person.
And if you know me, you also probably know that I have no self control when it comes to a good book, Harry Potter in particular. So I’m not going to be able to go home and just go to bed. I’ll be reading until my eyes get too gritty to continue. And then I’ll try to drive to Auburn in the morning with about 30 minutes sleep.
Here’s what I believe is the logical solution.
I go home on Friday night, go straight to bed and get up early to drive to Auburn. I spend all day at the horse show, then pick up the book on my way home. I could spend the late evening reading and finish off the book in the next day or two. I don’t have another day off work to allow me to spend all day with the book.
Here’s why I dislike the logical solution.
I will have to go home and go to sleep knowing that I could be getting that much closer to learning Snape’s loyalties, not to mention a hundred other questions J.K. Rowling has left for us to ponder. (Refer to previously mentioned lack of self control regarding books.)
I will have to avoid the Internet completely for fear of having the book spoiled. I’ll be nervous the whole time I’m out that someone might mention a plot point of the book. While I’m at the horse show, half of my mind will be dwelling in the nearest bookstore. And when I leave the bookstore with my book, it’ll take all my energy just to force myself to drive home and not read it all right there in the car.
I will probably go to the horse show. Especially if anyone wants to go with me. (Eclypse? Mshrmit, I suspect you are gonna be at home reading the moment you leave the post office.) My trainer might want to come, too. But not getting the Harry Potter book at the earliest possible moment might just kill me.
If only I could apply for a time turner. The ministry would certainly think this was important enough. If only the trio hadn’t smashed the whole collection.
