So, here is my Beautiful Chaos post mortom...
A few things really pissed me off, a few things were really good about the event. But I'll start with the crappy stuff first.
And I do not wish to sound whining or begging for sympathy in any form.. I'm just annoyed and have shit to say.
First, I kind of knew it was going to be a fucked up day from the start when we couldn't fit all our gear into one load and everyone was showing up really late. except Ian and I who somehow managed to be early even with the gear issues. Thank you Murray for the ride!!!!!
There were delays getting the house stuff set up, mainly the lights, kind of wished someone else offered to help them out instead of hearing them ask for help and no one lifting a finger so I had to drop my own set up to assist them, and if you know me then you know there is nothing I hate more, other than umbrellas then to climb up a ladder hold heavy things above my head.
I love my guitar so much, but sometimes its really impossible to play a gothic with black strings in the dark.. then to do three shots and two revs on stage during the first set.. that kind of fucked me up....
People's inability to do things on their own, the constant interupting me when I am in the middle of trying to do my own things because some one can't figure out the simplist of tasks. I had very little time to myself, I think I only had four smoke breaks, most of which were only half, I was bugged atleast three times and called away during my first chance of the entire day to eat a slice of pizza, which by the time I got back to was quite cold and disgusting, though, pizza is kind of disgusting to begin with. I missed my first half of DJ time.. thank you Cliff for covering me, and I was still trying to put on my boots in the booth.
People only doing things if it puts them in the spotlight and refusal to do any behind the scenes work.
One thing that really sticks out in my mind is seeing Ian packing up everyones gear on stage. I really wanted to help out, and this made me feel horible seeing this, but I was being called away to do other things... which was not fun at all... would of actually rather packed up gear than have to deal with the shit in the other room.
The delays getting on stage and trying to locate the entire band was really pissing me off and screwed up the entire evenings schedule. Not sure why its so hard for everyone to go to the dressing room five minutes before we start and wait there.
The WT fashion show portion during check times really screwed up our own check time and we did not even get a chance to do on song with the shameless dames to work out blocking at all.
Also somewhat annoyed that these people I have been in contact with for the past two weeks trying to help organize thier stuff and help them out didn't even have the courtesy to introduce themselves to me all save one.
Someone changing the schedule without consulting me could of potentially really screwed things up. And really, only Michelle or myself had the authority to do so.
Basically, if I am running or co-running an event, thats what I am doing for the night, I can't keep switching modes or drop everything everytime there is a minor problem and my only role for the band that evening is only to play guitar. And, certain tasks were assigned to various people, In the end it felt like Michelle and I were trying to cover everyone's thing and really not focusing that well on our own tasks and those things suffering as a result.
There was also a comment I heard about made by someone that I pulled into the event. Honestly, I don't care if you like my band or not. But you don't go up to someone that you don't know and the first thing out of your mouth is 'They really sucked' that is just plain rude and not professional at all. Even after I heard negative things about this person and defended and almost getting into arguements trying to praise them.
We all lost money.. which may seem minor, but both Michelle and I have dedicated the past three months of our lives to this event, and more on the event as a whole and not our individual portions. I am also just not used to any event I run coming out in the hole.
There were of course a lot of other things that bugged me, but I don't need to list every single thing. Like people getting in for free, even friends of mine, refusing to pay, claiming they had no money then spending the night at the bar.. way to show your support, thanks. The venue really needed to post security by the door to prevent crap like that.
So, the good stuff... which have now escaped me since I am now so pissed off about what I just wrote and just hearing about someone who was a part of the event complaining about me and claiming I yelled at them... sorry but I know exactly what you are referring to, and my memory and that of others paints a completely different picture of me actually saving your ass on stage.
ok, so again... good stuff.
Rick, the sound tech was great to work with, things were kind of slow to get going. problems with the lights etc. as meantioned above. but over all he did a great job, and it was the first time in over a decade where I did not feel the need to step off the stage during check to make sure everything was mixed to my satisfaction.
It was nice seeing certain people, even though my time was quite limited, Mike (buy his spoken word CD, its fucking amazing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!) the rest of Nanochrist, John from Trench Run, I was told Andrew was there, but I never saw him.. :/ Nathan from A Random Exit, Matt and Jeremy of Pleasure the Priestess, Herman from Delica. Cliff (dj th'Elf) you were a great help and I love working with you.. if it seemed I was getting mad at you about the one thing it really was not directed at you at all and we really needed those handsets :/
All the people who helped with the door and merch for the event as a whole ( I don't know all the names.. sorry... but you all seemed nice :), Bev for the rides getting our gear home.
Tim, probably my bestfriend or at least a tie with Chris and Michelle. I am really going to miss having you in the band, seeing you at least once every week. You may not be the greatest bassist in the world, but you are one of the greatest people I know and ANYONE that says anything negative about you can suck my dead cats ass. You made the our last show together in this band an amazing experience for me.
Was great having Ashley on stage with us for the one song, though the entrance could of been better.... :)
Jamie, our new bassist (played on set 2) We don't know her too well, but her ability is just fucking amazing.. to be able to learn millenium on stage during the show.. well, wow. I can only hope things work out with her and she doesn't get too bored with us.
Not sure what possessed me to kiss Michelle on stage... I just saw her on stage and it was just a huge wave of emotions... and I just plain forgot that I was on stage and that I was supposed to be playing a song... But if you think that was bad, that doesn't compare to security yelling at me for bending Tim over a chair and dropping his pants.
Lloyd was good to us, I am really sorry that some fucktard during the beauty pageant decided it was a good idea to empty out the rest of the pillows over the stage and the dance floor, even after we had proceeded not to make a mess of things.
It is very unfortunate that the negative aspects of the event really shadowed the postive. I know it was a good event, and I keep telling myself it was but it sure as fuck doesn't feel like it.
