Almost there! I have one more work day left! This feels surreal, with the prospect of not getting up every morning and taking care of business.
Last week, C & I rode the trolley to RMH to visit his friend Larry F. He has a tumor that has swollen up one side of his face, and is not in very good shape. Tuesday, the M crowd ate at Mama Maria’s in west Salem. Thursday is the regular drum night and I went to see if anybody showed up, but it was only Norris. We drummed and chatted awhile.
I took my last vacation day (hoarded from 2014) on Friday and a bunch of us went to RavenCon in Richmond. I got a work call on my cell phone en route because I’d already changed my contact info for retirement. K & Melissa & I worked the fan table, handing out flyers and promoting Mysticon. We went to some parties Friday night but got tired fairly early. Hmm, I must be getting old. Maybe I should retire! I didn’t see very many events at the con, but did shop the dealer room. Bud Webster is much better than he was last year! I got a T-shirt from last year’s RavenCon which was their best design ever, and a button. I saw the costume contest and went to work the auction. There was a lot of merchandise, mostly books, from John Jones’s collection because he passed away recently. Not very many people were in there bidding, so stuff didn’t sell very high. We made sticky notes as each item was sold and Barbara & Doris put the info into Everett’s auction software that he made for Dragon*Con. I was sent on an errand to find the LARP auction stuff. I bought a book with a certain relative in mind. We ate at the Mexican place again on Sunday just before leaving Richmond. A good time was had by all.
Monday, Ann & Linda took me to a goodbye lunch at the Thai restaurant by the city market. Tuesday, I picked up C from the Jeep dealer before work. That was the day of the retirement party! Since I’m the first to go, they planned it for me but then expanded it to cover all the Roanoke retirees in the IT department. I think they got shorted. C said he couldn’t get into the spirit of the party since he still has a few months left, including some on-call weeks. A lot of retirees came to the party and Lois came, too, but she was bored not knowing anybody else. Donna came from SC! I took in my iPad and connected Grace on Skype and showed her all around. Most people talked about the upcoming move, as expected.
I’m trying to tie up loose ends and clean out stuff. The zip code project is still in the works and I wanted to get my part into Production, but the other parts are not ready. I’ll have to leave a to-do list for the people in Atlanta who are taking over. Lots of luck!
