Hand over fist

Just finished the new Pratchett, Making Money. What a disappointment!

That it was pants shouldn't have been much of a surprise. Good Pratchett is thin on the ground these days. I'd made the mistake of getting my hopes up because Going Postal had been such tight, efficient fun. That book wasn't your usual shaggy dog story; Pratchett was saying something substantive about Capitalism, about the Enronisation of business, about open source software and it clipped along at a jolly pace. I even liked the hero, an charming con artist as opposed to the usual loser protagonist.

Anyway, Making Money featured much the same cast, but the plot was the usual muddy mess. The story meandered and lost me. The angry passion of Postal wasn't there.

Dead waste of a shilling.
