Okay. I looked myself up and down in the borrowed mirror. Clean shirt? Check. Clean jeans? Check. Hair not messed up? Check. Nervous about this date? Oh, yeah

Annabeth on the other hand, for all of her posturing and internal sighs about how clueless Percy was, had actually never been on a date and was therefore in the same boat as him. After wondering for a moment about what normal girls wore on dates, she decided to opt for her usual orange Camp Half-Blood t-shirt in a spur of rebellion. Sort of. But she'd also let her hair out of its regulation ponytail - a sign that the event was not totally unrecognized in her eyes.
Her cheeks were still red when she answered the door. "Hi." it was awkward - and the awkwardness was what scared her.
Seeing her, in that Camp Half Blood shirt that reminded me of home, with her hair down... I froze. What the heck was I supposed to say?
But then Jack's words came back to me 'Treat her like she's special...because she is'. I smiled, nervous. "You look nice," I said. The words just came out of my mouth; I don't know where they came from, but they seemed to know what they were doing. I indicated the pathway. "Shall we... head to the kitchen?"
"Um. Thanks." If anything, the comment just made her blush a little harder. "So do you." Annabeth could tell that he actually brushed his hair this time, so it wasn't everywhere like usual. Which was nice, she wasn't going to lie. Nodding to his question, she grabbed a jacket and closed the door of her hut behind her. "What movie did you pick?"
"Um..." I took a quick glance at the iPod in my jacket pocket. "'Star Wars'. I hope you like it. Zell highly recommended it." I looked up. "But we'll grab some food from the kitchen, first. I'm told the third floor common room is a good place to sit."
Saying it out loud made the date sound a little cheap in my ears. It wasn't the Ritz, and a part of me believed Annabeth deserved the Ritz. But at least it was time together. And I realized just how much I was looking forward to this.
