Prompt: 10 January: Write about a wound.
Captain Reynolds squirmed on the operating table. If Simon had been a lesser man, he'd have made a snide remark, but as it was, he said to hold still.
"Now, I don't want you lookin', Doc," the Captain said uncomfortably.
"It'll be difficult to remove the bullet if I'm not looking," Simon chided.
Captain Reynolds risked twisting around to give Simon the evil eye. "You know what I mean--ow!" Simon had jabbed him with the tweezers. He sighed. "I can't believe I got shot in the ass. My own personal ass!"
"That seems to be a regular occurrence recently, Captain," Simon said calmly. This is the third bullet he's taken out of the Captain's backside in nearly as many weeks.
"I can't believe I got shot in the ass again," the Captain began again. "It was not a regular happenin' before you and your sister showed up! Before that, the only thing in my ass was... well, there was nothin' in my ass. And let me tell you, I would have been happy to have it stay that way."
"So it's somehow our fault that you keep getting shot?" Simon asked distantly, his concentration on the tiny piece of metal in his tweezers.
"And another thing! Don't think I keep gettin' shot in the ass because I'm runnin' away! I'm not a--ow! I'm not a coward. I keep gettin' lured into ambush-type things doin' jobs that'll keep you and your deranged sister out from under the nose of the Alliance."
"Well, my deranged sister and I are so grateful for the sacrifices that your... your ass is making for us," Simon deadpanned, saying the word "ass" as though he's uncomfortable with it.
"You know, I get the feelin' you're not entirely serious about this deeply serious situation," the Captain said, twisting on an elbow to look at Simon. Simon just laughed and put a bandage on.
