The last apartment I rented was 5 floors up and faced the wind. That meant that in winter the weather outside was pretty much the weather inside, and I have the "huddled around the kitchen stove for warmth" stories to prove it. The windows in my room had old wood frames, and the wind whistling through them sounded fairly exactly like human screaming. I used to call it the Screaming Children because the first time I heard the sound I was woken up by it at 2 AM. Coming to, my first thought was, "will someone please shut those children up!"
This apartment has marginally better insulation. However, the panes of glass in my bedroom are attached by means of a strip of packaging tape which works fine in the summer, less so in the winter. This is the first really windy night this season, and the wind blowing through the crack sounds like an old man snoring through a harmonica. Does anybody know of a way to remedy this? I don't want to apply silicone sealant because it'll permanently close my window, and I will want to air the room out eventually. In the meantime, though, it seems to be airing itself out just fine.
