So yesterday my computer at work was hit by a real doozy of a virus. It disguised itself as an antivirus program and installed itself on my computer, then proceeded to "scan" it. It then told me that it has found some infected files, and please click here to quarantine them. When I clicked, all hell broke loose. It downloaded tiny programs and installed them automatically, opened up random folders, popped ads for porn all over the place- I've never seen anything like it. By the time I figured out that it was the antivirus program that was the source of it all it had burrowed itself in quite thoroughly, and it took a system restore and a dose of the Museum's serious antivirus program before it was alright again. The final scan for viruses found 15 separate trojan-type viruses spread out all over the computer.

Honestly, if it had been my computer at home I would have been seriously freaked out. But seeing as it was my work computer, it was actually quite fascinating to watch. :)

Bottom line: if you see anything calling itself "Rapid Antivirus"- keep away.
