Dear Sir,

Thank you for visiting the Center for Israeli Art. As you know, the Center is always glad to receive visitors and to help them find the information that they want. However, you noted a certain "attitude problem" among the librarians on your last visit, and I thought that perhaps an explanation was in order.

You see, it's not really that difficult a principle. This is a library. By which you can assume that we have several mountains worth of reading material. The only way we have of finding any given piece of information once it's been put away is by having a meticulous system of organization. If you don't ask us, you can't know what it is. If you don't know, you will fuck it up. And if you fuck it up, the librarians (that would be us) will beat you with sticks, as clearly stipulated by the Were You Raised In A Barn Act of '01.

So stop asking for special favors that you know we won't give you. No, you still can't look at two artist's files at once. No, you still can't pull any old book you want off the shelves. If I tell you that we don't have a certain piece of information, that means we don't have it. Stop trying to ask for the same thing in different ways, we're not trying to hide books from you. And for the love of all things holy, stop acting so indignant when we won't oblige you in whatever way you feel is appropriate. You might get a better reception if you didn't assume that our job is to drop everything and get you exactly what you need.

Hope that clears up matters.

Sincerely Yours,

work
