x__leah__x wanted to know how to do the colouring on this icon so having explained (badly) I thought I'd actually do a tutorial for it.

In PS CS, but fairly easily transferable I'd have thought.
Take your
original image and crop, sharpen and smooth as required.
Duplicate your base and set to screen, opacity 25.
Fernando's face is too pale/washed out compared to his dark hair and bright clothing so I created a mask on the screen layer and painted over Fernando's face (in black) so the screen layer doesn't effect it. Another option would be to erase his face.
Duplicate your base and set it to soft light, opacity 100.
I still think Fernando's hair is too dark so I made a layer mask and this time painted in black over everything other than his face.
Create a new layer and fill it with #1A0C2F. Set to exclusion, opacity 100.
Paste this gradient (by ?) into a new layer and set to colour burn, opacity 24.
Create a new layer and fill it with #FFDFAD. Set to multiply, opacity 100.
Create a black-white gradient map and set it to saturation, opacity 25. (Another option is to create a new layer and fill it with #FFFFFF and set it to saturation, opacity 25)
Copy the icon so far and paste it into a new layer below the gradient map. Set it to screen, opacity 35.
Duplicate the base and place it above the multiply layer (under the latest screen layer). Set it to soft light, opacity 54.
