What I wrote to the Le Tigre community, because I am bored and sick:

On their new album:
They've always been electronic. Even before Le Tigre, when Kathleen did Julie Ruin, the music was electronic. It is what separates her new music from Bikini Kill. As a matter of fact, in a song on the album Feminist Sweepstakes she calls herself an Electro-Punk Performance Artist. I don't think it sounds polished at all, so I can't really agree with those statements, either. As for JD and Jo adding more of themselves to the tracks, well, that's not significant enough of a change for me to say, "Wow, this new album is different from the others..." Even if Kathleen herself declares the music different, I would laugh. It's simply not.
I do not think people dislike This Island because of musical differences, because there are not many musical differences. Even if there were, bands are supposed to change and progress. I think people use the "musical differences" thing as an excuse. The reason people are criticizing the album is because this album is getting more mainstream play, even if they aren't that big yet. What I want to know is, if these people who are putting Le Tigre down are so fucking "cool" and "indie", why do they even know Le Tigre has been on VH1, Mtv and other mainstream TV shows???? I didn't even know Le Tigre was "going mainstream" until this community brought it up. I say, who cares if they are or not? This indie vs mainstream thing is getting old and it is moronically stupid. Hating something b/c it is mainstream is just as bad and phony as liking something because it is mainstream. Get over yourselves. They have a great message, and more power to them if they get popular. I don't care if teeny boppers start to like them, because the "oh so cool" indie-scene dorks are just as bad.

Love Le Tigre or don't post here.
