Hadley: The Preferred Sookie

Mar 11, 2013 20:49

Ha. The movie channels strike again. I ended up watching Quills with a younger Steven Moyer in it, the other night. And since I rarely think of True Blood, I had my one and only epiphany on how I think it will go this season. I reckon, in True Blood style, Bill will stake himself as B1000 - which will wrench the heart of every fangirl (either up or ( Read more... )

Haha-you have me squealing like a fangirl just by dropping his name. I adore Odd Thomas, and it’s not just his light and fluffy pancakes. I swear, I warned Mr. MNM that he would have some severe competition if it weren’t for the fact that Oddie’s heart belongs to Stormy. And I’m such an irrational fangirl that I’m even not too embarrassed to say that I daydream about hosting a dinner party for Odd, Stormy, Little Ozzie, Terrible Chester, and the ghost of Elvis. Sometimes the Chief, his wife, and Terri come too. How cool would that be? ;) Now, on to Hadley… JanineMNM (still ;)-ing)

I'm reading Odd Hours at the moment to fall asleep, so after that I've got more. Did you read they're making an Odd Thomas movie with Anton Yelchin as Odd? You'll be able to fangirl on a much bigger scale soon - and people will know who you're talking about. :D

I love Terri and the Chief. But I think my favourite book was "Brother Odd" in the monastery. I flirted for a time with being a nun, and I loved all of the characters in that. Luckily, I would have made a *terrible* nun. :D

Can I ask if Odd Thomas is his name or if Odd is a nick name? I`m asking because Odd is a very common name here but I haven`t heard it in other countries. And because I have a friend named Odd-Thomas ;-)

Odd is his name, not a nickname. His parents claim that they wanted to call him "Todd" but never explained to him why they always called him Odd.

I should inform you that presently, JanineMNM is going to be coming to your house to meet your friend and fangirl. :D

Apparently there are 21,572 men named Odd here in Norway and 23,781 named Thomas but only 18 named Odd Thomas. Most Odds were born between 1910 and 1960, though, so she`ll have to hurry before they die of old age.

Even is also a very common name here. And Stranger is a common last name. So we have an old joke about the Stranger brothers, Odd and Even, introducing themselves to someone speaking English:

- Hi, I`m Odd.
- And I`m Even Stranger.

I should mention that neither Odd, Even or Stranger carry any meaning here outside names.

Hehe, I hope I`m nut bursting any bobbles by mentioning that Odd-Thomas is gay, married and the father of three kids under 10.

But I`m always up for a dinner party!

Nope. No bubbles burst. OT is an extraordinarily good and fascinating person I’d want to meet under *almost* any circumstance. (He does tend to wind up where the danger is, on account of his psychic magnetism.) ;)

I can bring dessert or salad or whatever you need. ;)

I know! And the next book comes out on May 28! I don’t know if I’ll watch the movie, but hopefully he’ll pick up a few more fangirls, and then I won’t feel so lonely about loving Odd. So long as they don’t fuck it up in AB style. I think I read Koontz is happy w/ the result, and he hasn’t always had a good experience w/ Hollywood.

Brother Odd is so wonderfully contained in that setting. Sister Minty. ;) I played fetch w/ Boo in the snow. ;)

Ugh…stupid apologizing. It seems like I’ve read a few especially annoying examples of that recently. Makes me immediately exit and not look back.

I love how CH sets her stories up, builds them over the long haul, and Hadley is a great example.

I'll watch the movie eventually. At least with my movie channels I'll end up putting it on sooner or later. Hopefully though, all the Odd fans will come out loud and proud, and you can have a tumblr with all his coolest quotes ( ... )

I’ve already warned Mr. MNM that I may have to write an OT story. He looked at me very suspiciously since my latest obsession has been Swamp People.

;) The Kit Kats made me laugh because I always steal them out of my kids’ Halloween buckets.

Sookie could get run over by one of Eric’s synthetic blood delivery trucks & she’d be made to freaking apologize for getting in the way & making him worry.

Maybe it’s the researcher in me, but I like to see her outcome justified, with some basis in what’s come before, in the context of a bigger picture. And the great thing about CH is that she always has surprises that still end up making sense.

The field is wide open there. The OT section has ~2~ stories. You can be the most reviewed story writer if you're not careful.

I'm not a fan - I'd totally have Mars Bars or Spearmint Mentos as my sin. Mr. Minty loves Kit Kats though.

Lol - yes. And then she'd have to swear to stay in the house and not look at other trucks again. And also, Eric would have to kill the driver for maybe seeing Sookie's knickers when she sprawled on the ground.

I think it will be. Every so often I catch a whiff of some of the meta themes of the books, but they always slip away from me when I get buried in the minutiae.
