No Little Arms Here

So I have designs to update more often...and they are all dashed. Life will not leave me alone, and it's all terrible. Mr. Minty got a new job with a night time shift, which means I cook two dinners every night and do more housework. He's off today, so I'm trying to get this post finished before it's back to the grind. However, this downtime has ( Read more... )

There was no sex in DL, and not just a sex fest since DAG - which was expected. I find most of the time it's pretty repetitive stuff.

I agree about her. I just think if you look at Eric over the Kym Rowe incident, he's just not seeming to care. He doesn't care if T-Rex likes him, and he's not making friends with people. That affects how your kingdom is going to go. So even though he's a valuable asset in many ways, it doesn't help you if he's grumping and wants everything to stay the same. And for sure - Freyda has the upper hand.

I'm pretty sure that they can. Eric freaks out a little at the idea of sharing blood with other vampires, because they'll have power over him. But most of the effects we see with Sookie seem to carry over into the vampire world. I think it's reasonable to assume that Eric's blood being "awesome" would be the same for someone else as well. And after all, he did reinvigorate Clancy all by himself. Bill said sometimes when vampires are drained it takes 20 years or so to recover. Eric had Clancy up and running in months.

It's interesting that you mention the 20 years to recover from a draining.

Even on my first read-through of book 1, I was very skeptical of everything that Bill told Sookie about vampires. At that point it wasn't necessarily that I didn't trust him, but it was clear that he didn't trust her. Most of the information that she got at the beginning of the series about vampires was either warped PR, an outright lie, or heavily laced with lies of omission.

So I remember regarding the 20 years to recover from a draining in top-secret hospice locations scattered around the country as a similar thing... a lie that vampires had told to make the crime seem more grievous in the eyes of the public, and possibly explain why they weren't offering their blood to medical research.

Later, when Bill got silver poisoning, I thought of the 20 years number again, and it seemed more realistic.

Clancy seemed to spring right back into action, albeit with a serious attitude problem. I hadn't remembered that it was Eric who reinvigorated him, since Eric wasn't there when they found him. I wonder if it was taking on Eric's attributes that made him such a d-bag before he died. Was Clancy's behavior supposed to be a look into what Eric would be like if he didn't love Sookie?

Bill says it takes up to 20 years. And I would imagine that if you know that another vampire has a crappy maker, or is like Mickey, maybe it'd take him up to 20 years to get better from all the newborns offering him blood. In the case of Eric, it seems he considered it in his duties as Sheriff, but you could have a guy like Russell who's not so on top of things, or a boss like Michael who doesn't care about the vampires in his Area.

Eric's Area is a bit of a haven - no rape, the Sheriff takes care of you. To the point where other vampires like Felicia move states over to be with him. Eric rarely seems to have anyone leave his Area, or try to buck the system.

And Bill could have had a long lingering death if Sookie didn't stick her bib in - it was her who tracked down Judith. With Felicia's blood, he wasn't recovering all that fast, and Bill can't be the only vampire with a dead maker and siblings who won't come or are dead.

CH said somewhere that it was Eric who gave him blood. I find her site really difficult to search through though, but it could have been in a fan Q&A too. I think the blood exchange made Clancy heavily into Eric, to the point of excluding Sookie - and of course, Eric did shed a tear over his death. I think that Clancy was a douchebag before he died because he didn't like the control he lost, and he didn't care much for humans (and less after he was drained by some).

Oh boy! I completely forgot about Clancy and the whole debacle. It's time for a serious reread I think. I haven't even read Playing Possum yet.

Anyway, update soon! Yeah! ;)

I pick up something new on my re-listens all the time. Something I didn't think about before, that suddenly becomes an issue.

I'm going to try and make more of an effort. :D
