No Little Arms Here

So I have designs to update more often...and they are all dashed. Life will not leave me alone, and it's all terrible. Mr. Minty got a new job with a night time shift, which means I cook two dinners every night and do more housework. He's off today, so I'm trying to get this post finished before it's back to the grind. However, this downtime has ( Read more... )

I don't think it'd be this anti-climactic on the page. After all, we have T-Rex trying to get through to Sookie and not making it so far. And CH never goes into so much detail as I do. Plus, I could be wrong, but it's not predicated on chucking some other girl into an enforced marriage.

Lol at wanting to hate Freyda, but she's pretty crafty. I find it hard to hate her with her single minded pursuit, and it seems like she's a good Queen.

I thought about the fact that Sophie-Anne had her children for so long. But as we see with Pam, just because they have to take some time off, the maker/child bond is never really gone. It's not like human parents where you move out and that's it. Vampire children come home and stay in their parent's spare room every couple of decades. Eric in a marriage would only be absolutely tied to her side once in a year, so you could still be in the same state, and not have to see each other.

I agree that the marriage may be longer than 100 years (I said that it was a bad assumption to make that it's the same) but you can be serving someone and not be with them in a traditional sense. And it's possible that if Freyda gets the states stabilised, she might want to marry someone else. I'm sure that the discretion to terminate is on her end (Appius is dead so he might have had rights too) and she might choose to do that. But it seems she's thinking about *now* which is when things in her area are in flux since Rhodes - so she may not worry too much about long into the future when things are different.

I absolutely agree. Pam is such an excellent child because of her autonomy, rather than in spite of it. We see so much of vampires obligating and tying each other to things, and then we see vampires who give choices. The obligating ones don't do a good job - like Victor trying to pop off Felipe, or Jake bringing in the Fellowship. The ones with choice - most of the vampires in Eric's area are good with that - seem to do insanely brave and loyal things like gather together to get burnt by the new overtakers.

Oh, I can see Pam being Queen in about 300 years - but she won't be in a bad situation like Freyda, unable to get a worthy ally. And if Pam in DTTW is anything to go by, she's not so comfortable with leadership yet. I think she likes her relative freedom at the moment - the ability to have a private life, and she's still so connected to humanity - as in humans still make sense to her. I think the real politics will come later when she's just a little bit harder, but not quite as old as Eric and just looking to preserve life. Her time under Eric isn't wasted - I'm sure she's learning how to be a harsh mistress (she's still a bit too nice really - especially to Sookie - she needs to be more cunning).

I'm going to try to make an effort every day (and of course, I have a bunch of stuff to review) to put in a couple of minutes. And then on days off, when I don't have midnight dinners, it'll be full tilt. And he loves the new job, and the caring for him when he gets home. :D
