Bubba is kinda a special case. I mean, they're all going to keep his existence quiet, and they're all going to be nice to him because Bubba isn't going to stab you in the back politically. But being emotionally open isn't very safe. Godfrey's biggest issue is that he started feeling *everything* - whereas Eric's relatively safe because he's just feeling for Sookie, and doesn't give a shit about anyone else.
Making a vampire to share things with is kind of side-stepping the idea really. It's okay to feel something for a vampire and invest in them, because as your child, they can't betray you. I don't think it can be denied that Eric is often ruled by his emotions. All too often, there's this perception that he's a bot, and he's so unstoppable because he's so cold. But he really isn't. Someone on top of their game would have seen this, and stopped themselves.
I think part of what worked for Appius is Eric's determination not to just go out - the urge at first to go out fighting and end up in Valhalla, and then his absolutely Viking practicality. I mean, the Vikings were perfectly made for being vampires - with all of their own beginnings of the legal system we use today with moots. I think it would have made it easier to adapt.
Eric did choose much more carefully than Appius did. Appius went for exceptional beauty or status, not on the innate personality of the person who would make a great vampire. He would have chosen to turn someone like Sookie not because she's a telepath, but because she's beloved granddaughter of the last fairy Prince. Which really means it's all hit and miss with Appius as to whether his vampires would stay alive.
Just don't get too optimistic about how heavily she'll be featuring. :D

No, Eric isn`t feeling everything but Godfrey is an example of how bad one can end up being if one starts feeling things too much. I think they see him as less of an embarrassment being a child molester than as a suicider.
Oh, Eric is definitely ruled by his emotions but I don`t think he realizes it. I don`t think he said to himself "Hmm, I feel lonely - I want to turn someone." Not to mention "I`m insecure towards Sookie - I think I`ll hurt her a little bit." But he recognizes love as an emotion and sees that it`s changing his choices to the worse. Though, he himself said that Sookie was one of his good choices (Pam being the other) and even if he sometimes focuses a little too much on the negative sides of having fallen in love, he also acknowledges that Sookie (and Pam) are the only ones he can trust.
Viking code of conduct is very closely linked to the vampire code of conduct. You have rules but in the end it`s the guy with the best sword - and the best ability to swing it - who`ll win.
I wonder if Appius was disappointed with Eric for being satisfied with being a sheriff.
I think Appius might have turned Jason instead of Sookie ;-P
What are you saying? She isn`t featured on each page, saving the day and pushing Eric and Sookie together? *pouts*
I really wonder who she is and what she`s doing. Her name alone is very interesting, though I`ve stopped putting too much weight on names after CH`s mishap with Aude.

I think they all realise that that's how they could end up. They all seem to get old, cold, and tired. I think Appius is possibly the most vital one we've seen so far, as I'm pretty sure that's because of his own self-created drama.
I don't think Eric is given to too much introspection. He brings it down to the important bare bones stuff of impulse, and then that's the end of it. Yet another reason why he'd make a terrible King. If he was conscious of his mistreatment of Sookie - as in it was a calculated move - I would hate him. But he just does what will make him feel better. Unfortunately, what makes him feel better is not good for his long term goals - either getting Sookie to commit to him, or for surviving for a long time as the perfect vampire.
And how many swords does Eric have? Lol - lots of them. :D
I think he'd be more likely to be dissatisfied with him because he's playing tame and friendly. That he's seeking status with humans. Unless Appius could see how that reflects positively on him, he wouldn't value it.
I don't think Jason was exceptional enough. I think Appius likes the sons of leaders. So maybe Dermot would have appealed to him - but luckily Dermot wouldn't take that one lying down.
Lol - I'm sure she'll be a pivotal Mary Sue in many a fanfic. :D I believe that CH said before that she lives in Shreveport. But don't quote me on that one.

I think Eric hurting Sookie when he feels insecure is one of the thing that makes him "human" and also one of the things I think shows CH`s excellence in writing. This is how plenty of people react even if it isn`t very nice.
Oh yes *grins*
I know. But I don`t think Appius would go for Sookie even if she was Niall`s much beloved relative. I wonder if Fae can be turned. And if it`s ever happened.
Lives in Shreveport? Huh? If that`s true then I wonder why she hasn`t been part of the bar, the fights and introduced to Sookie. Very interesting. She might have moved to Shreveport recently, though.
I`m mainly interested in where and when she was turned, though. And why. My guess is that she`s blond and therefor not Japanese (Karen can be Scandinavian/Germanic or Japanese if CH follows name rules, but she didn`t with Aude so I`m not putting too much in it).

I'm reticent to call it human, because I don't think it is a human vs. vampire trait. It's just a thing people do - vampire or not. And yeah - people do tend to lash out at each other.
I'm not sure a full fae could be, but a partial fae could be.
It's alright - as it turned out, my memory was conflating two separate statements. Eric's other child hasn't entered into the picture yet. There are at least two other vamps in Shreveport that haven't entered into the story yet. from CH herself.
Well names mean nothing if the vampire is old enough. Sophie Anne was originally called Judith. It depends if they like their name, or if they've always wanted to change it. But I don't know that we'll get to hear too much of her story.

I didn`t mean human as opposed to vampire. And actually I`ve seen dogs do it too. If they hurt, they will bite you.
I`m obsessed with names. I never liked that Eric was called Eric and not Erik, Eirik or Eirikur even if I know he could have changed it any number of times during the 1000 years he`s been on this planet.

I'm a bit raw after reading so much trash about which vampire is the "most human" in True Blood - and AB doesn't make it better with his faulty reasoning. But I agree - dogs do it - and so do many animals - lash out in their pain.
Eirikur - come on, this America. They're not good with the idea of foreign sounding names. They made Arnold Schwarzenegger change his name to "Arnold World" when he started out in movies because the USian mind would buck up. And they made their own insular version of the Stieg Larsson trilogy. They don't like this multicultural look - has to be Eric, like your ordinary human neighbours.

He can endanger you, of course. And he can put himself in danger too. No problems. But if you choose to try and save his sister and thereby endanger yourself and *drumroll* your unborn baby, then you should be punished. Even if his sister would have died if you did nothing.
I don`t watch TB and I meant "human" more in the way we usually use the word. As in "common behavior".
Eirikur *swoon*. I know, I know. But that fucking "c" in his name bugs me. Can`t help it. Not as much as the "e" in Aude, but close.
Of course, I`m plenty bugged by "Girl with the Dragon Tattoo" when the author named it "Men who hate women". That title is SO much better - even if my mother wouldn`t buy it for my step-dad because of the title.

Oh see - I'm sick of hearing about the vampire being more human or not as human. When both of them are clearly previous humans, and this is all a smokescreen of bullshit. Ain't no born vampires, and AB is full of puff and wind.
Ah yes, but without the e, it'd be exactly like Eric was married to demon Anya when she was alive. :D
Lol - that is a bad title, for sure. :D I don't blame you that you like the new one. :D

There`s a reason I don`t watch TB. I value a stable blood pressure.
Aud = Anya? Huh?
Ah, I love Men who Hates Women because that was what the book was all about. The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo is a wussy title.

Lol - while I often enjoy being able to angry up the blood to desensitise myself.
That was demon Anya's human name when she was alive Anyanka 'Anya Jenkins' was born as Aud in the 9th century in Sjornjost.
I don't think it would have drawn quite the right audience - and it's always better to show rather than tell.

I desensitize myself by forgetting everything. Can`t be aggravated over stuff I don`t remember. My hero is that blue fish in Nemo :-D
Really?? How cool is that? I never got that but then we`re only just watching the last season, having put it off because we didn`t want to watch the end.
Yeah, but I figured the author told us something with the title. I think he wanted to shout something out in the bookstore and I think translators should respect that ;-)

Lol - Dory, that's her name. Because Australia is full of American fish and turtles.
Well this is what I mean by there being just as many Buffy references as there are Gone with the Wind references. I love to think of Eric married to demon Anya. I don't think his wife will be turning up. And of course, CH used the massacre Anya appeared at in St. Petersburg to stage a maenad possession.
No - that wouldn't sell to the right people. I wouldn't buy that, or pick it up. Too blunt. :D

A better word for blunt is "Scandinavian" :-D

You're just too blunt for the rest of us. :D
