Humility

Jul 21, 2007 22:35

To this you were called, because Christ suffered for you, leaving you an example, that you should follow in his steps. "He committed no sin, and no deceit was found in his mouth." When they hurled their insults at him, he did not retaliate; when he suffered, he made no threats. Instead, he entrusted himself to him who judges justly. (1 Peter 2:21-23)

As I read this passage this morning, it really encourages me to know that Jesus, the King of kings and Lord of lords, did not retaliate when insults were hurled at Him. He has the power to do anything yet He made no threats when He suffered. Instead, He entrusted Himself to God, the only just Judge. He is our living example. Not retaliating does not mean that one is weak. Retaliating is an easy, effortless and natural thing to do. However, to withhold retaliation takes great strength, true humility and abounding grace. May the Holy Spirit help us to humbly follow in His steps.
