I'm going to have to disagree with you on this one. America has in it's time been a bully, a cheat, and a hypocrite, but there is no crime on earth that could have justified the slaughter of thousands of innocents. What we deserve is a change of government, a chance that is offered to every citizen over the age of 18 every four years.
We are slughtering thousands of innocents right now, as i type this there is a war going on. The number of deaths of americans and the number of deaths of people we have killed are not equal in the least.
This war did not start until well after 9/11, and started as a result of the shortsightedness and greed of a few politicians. The war we are embroiled in is not and cannot be justified, but neither were the attacks on the twin towers. It's like comparing apples and oranges.
What about the gulf war? What about vietnam? And while perhaps 500 to 800 people died from 9/11 how many have been killed in Iraq? How many have been tortured. Not to sound like a completly blind optimist, but peace would solve this, a treaty would solve this. But we are still fighting? and at this point, what are we fighting for? Is it still a moral fight or is it oil?
You are confusing issues as well as combantants. For the past twenty-five years we have been misled by our leadership and our armed forces as well as the people of the world have suffered from it. However, 9/11 was not an attack against our leadership or even our government. It was the mass murder of hundreds of civilians who had no impact on the arab world.
As for the Gulf wars... the first prevented an insane dictator from expanding his empire at minimal loss of life. The invasion of Alfganistan deposed a tyranical regime and dealt a severe blow to the terrorists they funded. The invasion of Iraq was, however, completely unjustifiable. Our leadership has failed us but the theory behind our government is the best in the world. If only we'd use it properly.
