AT5: Reverberation, 11-13 February 2011 (2)

Feb 15, 2011 15:56

The auction was held at the end of the day on Saturday. That's a whole other post. Oh, but I noted down that the last line of Redemption pt 1 is an RDA ad lib.

I do really badly on Sanctuary episode titles, btw. Feel free to let me know in comments.

Session 3:

AT's bucket list: climbing a mountain, spending more time in India or Nepal, getting her pilot's licence. And adopting a child. (Earlier, she talked about visiting an orphanage in Nepal, which is funded by Sanctuary for Kids - see yet other post I'm going to make - and said it was lucky they didn't visit the orphanage for babies, miming herself striding out of there with a baby tucked under each arm. Aw.)

Someone asked if there was a lot of "puff and ruffle" from the male actors on set, and she said yes, definitely - they all did it differently. Chris Heyerdahl does it in a very actorly way, Ryan Robbins is all "look at me, look at me!", and Robin Dunne drops his pants (also, from the bloopers that we're not supposed to mention? Damn, he has a nice ass).

Someone asked if the Nepalese orphans were adoptable, and she said not really - they're not all actually orphans, some still have families that they go home to (but who cannot afford to keep them), and they are all wrapped in love and affection at the home - they live there safely, and receive a home and an education until they are old enough to strike out on their own.

Is it hard separating emotions on set? No, not really - she said that her emotions are very close to the surface (tell me about it!), and that helps in her acting, but that she almost never allows emotions from her personal life to encroach when she's working. The one time it did was when she lost a close friend - the friend's husband phoned her from the hospital so they could say goodbye, and AT was supposed to be reading in, doing the reverse part of a reverse shot (i.e. saying her lines while the other person is filmed), and just completely lost it on set.

Could they have Jonathan Young (Tesla) in every episode from now on? AT said she'd love to - he's welcome anytime. Jonathan lost his daughter about a year ago, and he's just now getting back into work, doing the jobs he feels up to - he feels safe within the Sanctuary cast & crew, and a play that he's doing. AT would love Tesla to just move straight in to the Sanctuary.

Has she tried curling? Yeah, flat shoes and AT and ice don't really mix, apparently. She has tried it. She doesn't mind watching it. *g*

There are some good scenes with Chris Heyerdahl coming up. She couldn't tell us much, but the second to last ep... bit of an altercation, apparently...

She does have a pair of emergency white stilettos in her closet, as required of an Essex girl. *g* (For US fen: Essex girl = Jersey girl.) Although, while she was born in Essex, she's not entirely from there - her father is from Kent, and her mother is from Finchley. North London girls represent!

What abnormality would she like to have? Longevity, so long as there's a get-out clause. Or flying. Or being invisible.

Magnus would drink a vodka martini with three olives. Or a good single malt. Or a drink that AT made up called a Bloody Magnus - she wasn't sure what would be in it, aside from a single drop of sanguinus vampiris... and some celery. *g*

There are some team episodes coming up, and developing the relationship between Kate and Magnus. Kate was a slow-burn character, the intention being that the audience don't like her at first, but then she grows on you.

Spirituality / religion in the Sanctuary: Helen was raised C of E, but is now more generally spiritual.

What lines are Magnus, and what are AT? The laugh at the end of Next Tuesday, and she fought to keep that in, and the laugh when she and Druitt fall down a hole in [ep?], and she lands on him, is basically her and Chris Heyerdahl. And all the eyerolls at Henry. *g*

Someone asked about My Plastic Badger (the company name). It comes from the three different companies of the three involved - AT's 'My ---, Damian Kindler's 'Plastic ---', and Martin Wood's '--- Badger'. They played around, and came up with that. The voice is Martin Wood, who often says "Didn't hurt" when he injures himself on set. AT's company name has now changed to Pollyanvil, and she explained that she's been called Pollyanna in the past, particularly by one professor in college. Then she got more cynical about the business, and kept expecting the metaphorical anvil to drop from the sky, so people started calling her Miss Anvil. Now she's optimistic, but with one nervous eye to the sky - hence, Pollyanvil.

She talked about the different 'voices' for the characters - Sam and Magnus are very different. She always used to find some way back into Sam, such as her walk or the way she speaks. It was a challenge not to get lazy, after all that time playing her. Magnus walks differently - kicking ass on stilettos is very difficult, by the sound of it!

The tearaway badges when SG-1 go offworld is an authentic military thing - plus, in later seasons at least, a lot of Goa'uld know them by reputation. She reiterated how much US Air Force help and advice they'd have to keep things correct, and mentioned that they were told that Sam wouldn't call Jack 'Jack' in Solitudes - it should be 'Colonel'. But they did it anyway. Head injury, you know. *g*

She met Rick Hanson at the winter Olympics in Vancouver, and he was awesome, and had done his research about her work with charities, etc.

And then she was kicked off stage again! *g*

Session 4:

Three things you'd never see Magnus do: smoke, drink coffee, be naked. "Pavor Nocturnus" yelled a lot of people. "Oh, sorry... head injury..." Full-frontal nudity, then. In public, anyhow - she does get naked sometimes. AT suggested that Magnus walks around the Sanctuary naked, at night. *g* And Magnus plays a mean guitar.

Her favourite of the TV shows she's been on is Sanctuary. She loves the TV series Rome.

She suggested several endings for the line in [ep?], "Don't be ridiculous, Elvis is..."

"...alive and living in [somewhere funny]."
"...alive, and I'm keeping him prisoner."
"...upstairs." *g*

If Magnus, Sam and AT were dogs... Sam would be a golden retriever (and I totally wrote that fic! I'm just waiting for it to return from beta... hint, hint...). Magnus would be a Jack Russell. AT would be a Bouvier.

How have her characters influenced her personally? Sam made her stronger, more inclined to fight her corner.

If they try to pitch another nubbins ep, Lee Wilson's head will explode - rendering the fur is a huge job. Unless they're invisible. Or shaved. *g*

If the last ever, ever, ever ep of Sanctuary was coming up ("What, no chance of a film?"), AT would like Magnus to die peacefully and meet Ashley in heaven.

Magnus will speak in French in the upcoming ep set in Normandy.

AT denied all responsibility for the ep where Will is awoken, and gets up, wearing only boxers, and... he looks a little too happy, let's say. There was a complaint from the studio, when they saw the rushes. AT handed it over to Martin Wood and Damien Kindler and told them it was their job to deal with. And she said she thinks it was a sock. *g*

Magnus's mum is definitely dead, and AT is working on the hows and whys. Although if Helen Mirren ever wants to be on the show, Magnus's mum will miraculously be still alive. *g*

Things that AT can't live without: a cup of tea in the morning, curling up with Olivia at bedtime, snogging her husband, and the gym or a walk in the woods.

How did Magnus figure out her longevity? (Also a question we'd discussed beforehand.) Well, they did blood tests beforehand, and after, and *handwave*handwave*. Plus, yes, after fifty years, the penny probably dropped. "Hey..." AT thinks that Magnus probably has other, subtle abnormalities.

She and one of the con staff did a sketch of John Druitt and Jack O'Neill stuck in a lift, talking about hot chicks. It was hilarious. Jack was somewhat startled by John's 160-year-old babe.

Working with Paul Gross on Due South: he's yummy! And so nice, and genuine... and good-looking... He did a last-minute rewrite of the scene that rather threw her... and did she mention that he's gorgeous?

She shares Magnus's fascination for goo. Having a five-year-old helps.

Sam would win a technobabble fight with Magnus. But Magnus would stab her in the head with one of her stilettos. *g*

Marry, Snog, Kill: Tesla, Druitt, Declan. Kill Tesla, because he'll come back to life. Marry Druitt because he doesn't stick around ("He's always popping in and out." *everyone laughs* *AT facepalms*). Snog Declan, because he's cute.

If Teryl does come on the show, she doesn't want her to be an abnormal - she pictures her as an old medical friend of Magnus's, someone who's on the outside but is aware of the Sanctuary.

Nothing has happened between Tesla and Magnus, unless it was 60-ish years ago, when everything was all *handwave*. Antagonism born of respect. Not a brother/sister relationship, but not lovers. Sort of like Jack and Sam. They can't live without one another.

AT would love to do a costume drama. She's unlikely ever to do horror - she doesn't like the movies where everyone is getting their limbs hacked off, etc.

They are considering a 3D ep for season 4...

One part she always wished she got was in a TV movie called 'Sam and Me', that they kept calling her back to audition for, even though they gave the part to someone else.

And the last question of the con was asked by
abyssinia4077, who asked about the setting up and structure of Sanctuary for Kids. It's set up to raise funding for smaller charities that help children in crisis. It can also be for parents in crisis - anything that ultimately benefits children. She invited applications - they mostly come across these charities through word of mouth.

Then we got to see Sanctuary S3 bloopers, on condition that no one took photos / video. OMG, you guys. *sporfles*
