Two Mac episodes in a row which begin with his car breaking down. Mac, sweetheart, darling, snookums, I know your beloved grandpa left it to you, and it's a pretty awesome shade of turquoise that matches that hideous shirt you seem to love, but maybe you should buy a vehicle built after 1955? Don't give me that crap about aliens being responsible ( Read more... )

I watched some MacGyver, but I never watched regularly. I have no memory of any of the episodes you've discussed.

It seems that that's probably a good thing! Aliens?! They did aliens on MacGyver?! And I missed it, because I'm sure I would have remembered that. Wow.

Heh - well, they sort of did aliens, in that there was a coy 'well we can't really say for sure' bit at the end - but, basically, there was a giant spaceship for which Mac couldn't think of a scientific explanation. So. And you're probably better off not seeing/remembering it, because it was ridiculous. Even more than usual. :)

Jerico Games is the one with the ex-girlfriend and yeah she is kinda messed up. Just hang on until you get to Eye Of Osiris, it's kinda hokey but it's fun to hear RDA say Anubis years before he played Jack O'Neill.

Heh - yes, I always enjoy when archaeology shows up on MacGyver (and Mac is suddenly an expert... *sigh*...).

I kind of liked 'Bitter Harvest', but maybe I just liked the early scene when Mac gets hauled off in cuffs. I guess I'm hopeless. *g*

'Eye of Osiris' -- it'll be interesting, seeing your reaction to that one. I regard it as one of the true low points, but tastes do vary!

Oh, yes, there were some cute moments in 'Bitter Harvest'. I liked his "disguise" when going grape picking. I chuckled. *g*

Also, I kind of liked the shocking turquoise shirts, as long as he left at least one button undone. But I did loathe that car. (It doesn't help that my own memories of the cars of that era are anything but endearing.)

Maybe the PTB said, "Well, we can either hire some good scriptwriters with fresh ideas, or we can give Mac a different car to drive (again). Oooo! Cars! Shiny!"

Oh, that's totally what happened! The more expensive the toys, the less effort they put into the scripts. Yes.

Plus he's supposed to be so environmentally conscious that driving a vehicle that old and bad for the planet is just inane! I know it was supposed to be charming and say something about Mac, but when you look back now it's all 'D'oh!'

Oh, 80's tv! How we love you!

Hah - yes! Mac, really. If there was anyone on TV most likely to invent his own electric car...

This season is particularly bad for late 80s/early 90s fashion, too. It's almost worth watching just the extras in the background. Dear god the clothes were lurid, back then. *g*
